Sweet little cat
Plays with my keyboard
Paws on the mouse
She rules my office
Queen of the house!
I love her dearly
But when I’m working
She has very nearly
Crashed all my work!

For years the bandstand in the park had been a sad sight. Money was short and it wasn’t being spent on places like this. Then the politics changed. Our city voted with the ruling government and suddenly money was available. Since then, in the last few years, children’s centres and libraries have closed. Council offices are closed and were eventually knocked down. Police stations throughout the city closed. Now there are only one or two left. Even the Magistrates Court was closed. The argument had been that we didn’t need, or couldn’t afford these things. Although the council changed allegiance the city wasn’t rewarded with much, perhaps a few newly built office buildings in the city centre (some still unoccupied years later). Certainly not much to make up for the losses. Oh the town hall got a makeover with expensive wallpaper, but what of the rest of the city…. Well we got a lovely new bandstand! And I’m not being a grouch, it is lovely, but where is the regeneration we keep getting promised? Stoke-on-Trent was once a centre of industry, steel, coal, and pottery. Now, a city of warehouses. Sad.

Singing in a bandstand is good because the roof helps the acoustics. Our group, called the Mystery Singers were out in the cold fog singing carols mainly to the empty park, although we did have a small audience. One group that totally ignored us was the local anti-vax group (or maybe the bah-humbug group). Very strange. They didn’t look happy.
At one stage the sun did come out and the temperature rose a few degrees but after a couple of songs the fog rolled back in again. I think people enjoyed our singing, we got some nice comments and applause. Now I’m warming up, it was freezing out there !

Sundays prompt is lipstick for #bandofsketchers.
Lipstick, I haven’t worn any for years! Still I can take a photo of my lips and draw them. I have dark salmon pink and gold felt pens and I do remember what a lipstick looks like… So this is my effort. And no I wouldn’t wear bright red x

Oh for autumn
Gone away
Not to be seen
For another day
Plants die back
Leaves fall down
Winter comes
And freezes the ground
Warmth has seeped
Away from here
Brilliant sun
No longer near
Frosts and fogs
Are here this year
To chill your bones
Cold winds you hear.
So come back autumn
Come back spring
One more summer
To make me sing.

For the first time in months I went to sing with the Loud Mouth Women choir. Covid fears and a pulled calf muscle has stopped me. I had to admit I’ve been scared of mixing. But I went, and I felt a bit better in myself afterwards. You don’t realise how depressed you are getting until you force yourself to do things, but I did it. It’s cheered me up. It was the last choir practice this year and we sang some Christmas songs. Glad I went.

Shall I buy this cute little stone dragon? Not at THAT price! Do you think I’m made of money? What about the coal it would cost to feed it? And its asleep now but what happens when it wakes up, sneezes, and burns my shoes or the bottom of my coat? I mean he’s really CUTE, don’t you just want to go ahhhh or oooo? I know I do. And what about (whispers) toileting? Can you get a dragon litter tray? Plastic would not do, too caustic……would need stainless steel. Then there’s the vets… innoculations, how do they inject through a stone hide? Something to think about.. I mean, are dragons prone to scale beetle, carbon cough, wing itch? Your guess is as good as mine… What do they drink? water- or lamp oil? I think I will go for a Gargoyle instead. Stick it on the roof and it will be happy drinking rain water and watching birds fly by…

Before and after, the local Christmas lights switch on at the top of our hill. Everyone counted down and then… The gentle lights came up on the Christmas tree. Not overwhelming but restrained and pretty. We ate a mince pie that were being handed out. The local brass band played the carols and people sang along. As the Carol service continued children took their places as characters in the nativity. Two tiny. Little girls were the angels and there was a flock of shepherd’s. Well done to the organisers who created a warm welcome despite covid. X

I think this is a tea pot
It has a spout
A handle too
It’s shiny glaze
Is red not blue
Gold and black
Organic shape
Like a gourd
With stem entwined
I’d love this pot
To pour a drink
Nice and hot
Of tea, I think…

We will assimilate you…
Photo of a crunchy cat nibble on a cat plate. It just struck me that it looked a bit like a Borg…
The plate was made by PrintRun.co
I think it’s a victorian transfer print that has been repurposed for a modern market. But the image of it with the cat treat just made me chuckle.
