Molecules

Just playing with pattern and colour. I will probably do more to this digitally. It is a drawing made with felt pens. Each shape is linked, where possible with a line. The centre is more complex, then the outer lines act as barriers or walls. When I’m doing this I set myself simple rules to follow so the image doesn’t end up too chaotic.

Triangles

Draw triangles and colour them in. I started with a star shape then worked my way out. Who needs adult colouring books when you can make your own pattern. I also tried to vary the colours so that there is more light and shade in it. The paler blue section seems to recede. I just used a set of ordinary felt pens and a fine line pen to draw the triangles. Doing something like this is like a meditation. You can sit and let the world go by as you draw and sketch. You can use any shapes you want and make the pattern as complex as you like. X

Doodling day

I started the centre of this months ago then lost the sketch book. I found it again last night and decided to finish it. I tried adding different patterns and shapes. It took me a couple of hours last night and a few more this morning. I do like a good doodle. No tablet or mouse in sight, just straightforward drawing with a black ink pen. Of course I can play with it digitally but I don’t want to at the moment, sometimes original is best. X

Blue and white

Blue and white digital drawing using the sketch app on my phone that has a kaleidoscope effect, then with added texture using photo director. Reminds me of a ceramic bowl with a repeat surface pattern using transfer printing. The pattern also looks like dancers or iceskaters. It would also look good on fabrics, like a silk scarf.

Kaleidoscope

Kaleidoscope or Mandala using a sketch app on my phone, I think as I draw I try and create an interesting and satisfying pattern. You don’t know what you will end up with when you start, but I think it does help relax you. The app allows you to draw symmetrical patterns by repeating one line over and over again round a circle. I love playing with apps.

Ulysses?

I decided to paint something a bit different. I was calling it Medusa but a friend suggested Ulysses. I know the Medusa story but I’m not familiar with Ulysses so I think I had better look it up. This is another acrylic on canvas that I started late last night. I wanted to get a feel of paint on plaster, like a mural.

And then there’s faces

Digital drawing I did six years ago. I think in the sketcher free app and then I used the layout app on my phone. I’ve tried several art apps but I can’t keep all of them on my phone because I still haven’t increased the memory on it. I don’t want to lose my images if they get deleted by accident. I could imagine this being a tapestry or embroidery.

Stained glass view

A few weeks ago we visited Rode Hall and the church across the road from it. I was running out of battery power so only took this photo. I just decided to look at it again because I like the colours in the glass. Blues, reds and whites highlight the figures and the textiles and architecture. The detail of the pattern at the top and base of the window panes help link each panel together. Just cutting the glass pieces out must have been so difficult and time consuming. Using lead to hold the glass in place. How do artists manage to do this? I’m full of admiration.
