After I drew the laburnum arch I looked through the photos I took at the weekend and realised I could have drawn this instead. I don’t remember seeing it before, but it is quite striking. One thing about the UK is the greenery. Once spring and summer arrives the greens burst out. Yes we do get drought conditions, but we are very lucky compared with many places.
Sometimes even blurred photos work. I used photodirector to add texture to this. Why? Because although it was blurred the colours were really interesting. The contrast of dark reds and greens and pale green and pink seemed to work really well. You can still tell what it is but in an abstract way. In a way its sketching with photography. I think it’s still art.
Little devil’s appear to be looking out of this reflected image of spring tulips. The orange, yellow, purple and green are really cheerful. It’s just fun to play with images and see what comes out from my imagination….. Even if they are a little devilish!
Today for #bandofsketchers we had to draw something ‘Awesome’. One thing I’ve always wanted to do is see the Aurora Borealis, northern lights. The electrons in the solar wind get trapped by Earth’s magnetic fields and get drawn to the north and south poles. There they are drawn down and they interact with the magnetic fields and great auroral lights illuminating the sky. The Southern lights are called the Aurora Australis.
Squint and see faces, patterns, monsters. Tipped over doubled image. The colours help make it vibrant and interesting. Plant life can be amazing.
Out at Trentham Gardens in the sunshine. I love the Cedar of Lebanon trees. Thy must be a hundred years old. I’m surprised they haven’t been felled because a lot of the trees have been (health and safety?). I guess if a large tree limb fell on you it would be disastrous. What I like about these is the way the branches spread out sideways in a very flat, horizontal way. They are evergreen trees and very spectacular all year round.
Doorway at the Thai temple. So beautifully decorated. Golds and greens, amazing patterns. The celebration was outside so we didn’t go in, but I would have liked to. The skill and artistry is outstanding. I imagine the sort of skills you would need to carve church screens, or old furniture. Those skills are being replaced by computers or 3d printing. But hand carving and painting adds something special. Not clean and accurate, but human and possibly slightly flawed. It is fine art. X
I haven’t bothered to wash the car for months. I hardly drive it unless we are going for a walk round Westport Lake and that’s only a few miles. Why?
Covid, keeping away from people.
Fuel costs, I’ve only filled it up about six times in a year.
Walking to the shops. I’m slow and shaky but the car is not needed.
My shaking arm, its uncomfortable to drive.
So I was deciding whether to wash it, but I found this little mound of moss. I think I will let it be. Let nature take its course. After all I can always get a bucket of water on it. Its old and hard to get parts, but it’s a good car.
I think Euphorbia is this plants name. I’ve made a pattern from it. The flowers /bracts are a strange shape and are acidic green in colour. I know if you cut them you should wear gloves because they exude a liquid that can burn your skin especially when the sun is out. I’m calling this Euphorbia squared.
