Vacuuming

_20191028_123714

Filters. How many? I think about five in my vacuum cleaner. All of them get blocked up. So when you come to clean them out you have to clear each one. Having long hair and cats doesn’t help. Our old cleaner was a lot more efficient and needed less maintenance. I guess the twists and turns dust has to follow through the machine, causes the blockages, like blood clots in a branching venous system. Not to mention… Hubby’s socks that get left in odd places and cause more problems! Argh!

Last year

Or was it the year before? We went to see a play at Spode, another by Debbie McAndrew, probably Hot Lane. There was a car from the 1950’s as part of the set up. It was parked in the pathway between some of the buildings at the Spode Site. I took a picture of it and decided to make it look more authentic by turning it into a black and white photo.

I like monochrome pictures, they can be more atmospheric. I hope you like it.

Supplies

I’ve got a few tiny canvases in for the next lot of pictures for craft tairs I’m doing. I’m seriously thinking about doing some more seasonal scenes, or autumnal ones. I may use reflective or metallic colours on them to give them a different feel.

The problem with getting canvases is that I can’t always get the size I want, they are not always well made, and sometimes the wood is so hard it’s difficult to put screws into them to put mirror plates on them. Also a lot of laces just sell box canvases. They are OK but they are very deep, so they are hard to frame so you have to paint the edges to make them look neat.

These are only small but I paint on even smaller matchbox sizes. I will post more photos when they are painted.

Home is Where the Art is revisited.

_20191025_165134

I’ve has a busy day! I took eight paintings up to the Brampton museum and art gallery for their annual Christmas show, which is an exhibition by a group of local artists to se their art through December. I still have two paintings in there for the Orme Art group show. Then I popped over to the Waiting room gallery to see their ‘Home is where the Art is – revisited’ this is another group show on for a couple of weeks. I have two paintings in it.

I’ve never had so much work exhibited in so many places at once!

Tiles

Ceramic tiles, made by Minton tiles. In St Thomases  Church in Penkhull. Simple, classic designs. Used in conjunction with plain tiles in geometric patterns. They may be simple but they are quite sort after. Many terraced houses had their entry halls, as you came in through the front door, decorated with these tiles. A lot have been dug up because often the houses were not built on proper foundations. To be replaced by poured concrete flooring. Minton tiles are now sought after by people buying terraced houses. More details of Minton tile designs can be found in Stoke-on-Trent City library archives.

Done

One more done….

I enjoyed doing this trying to make it ‘iconic’ got a robin painting to finish off. That should be finished tonight. Still more to do though. They will all need mirror plating. These are flat plates screwed onto the back of the paintings so they can be attached to the wall. I will also paint round the edges of each painting to make them look nice. This is called ‘gallery wrapping’. I do it because I can’t afford to frame all my paintings. It also means anyone buying a painting can choose what they want.

Painting myself to a standstill

DSC_2337

Help what am I doing?

Painting myself into a corner,

Painting myself to a standstill?

Paint, water, dip, paintbrush….

Canvas, paint, brush, mix…

Choose a subject,

Hand, eye, look, stare..

Hunched, squint, think, measure…

Mix, pigment, life, art…

Angel, Icon, flowing, floating.

Tired,….
