Visiting gardens

Which activities make you lose track of time?

I can’t remember where I took this photo. I think it might have been the Trentham Gardens show gardens?

I lose track of time when I visit (which is not very often). I will try and get a friend to come with me so I can explore a bit further. It takes me a while to walk around  a garden, and I frequently take photos so that I can rest on the way round. I’m slow and not sure so handrails can come in handy. But I love seeing how gardens change with the seasons. But sometimes my progress is glacial! I keep checking my heart points on my phone. They generally stick at 0 because I’m so slow!

Lots of things

What bothers you and why?

The world seems upside down inside out

I’m bothered by lots of things.. about

Broken tiles

Corrupt files

Parking woes

A split hose

Not enough bees

Leaves leaving trees

Too hot one day

Too cold the next day

Inconvenient thoughts

Complicated sports

Not enough food

Having a low mood.

They all bother me

I guess that’s how I see

The world

Unfurled.

Ten things

List 10 things you know to be absolutely certain.

I know that apples fall down off trees.

I know cats are devious creatures!

I know bats don’t always live in belfry.

I know cheese can be put in a curry.

I know time seems to move forwards.

I know there are no Elephants on Mars.

I know Wales is different to whales.

I know that salt does not taste like sugar.

I know I like to watch the sky at night.

I know I don’t know about a lot of things!

I wanted to create a list that wasn’t contentious, that could almost be a poem, that I didn’t have to type out my working out, and I hope people will find humerous.

Who’s coming to dinner?

If you could host a dinner and anyone you invite was sure to come, who would you invite?

I’d like to invite Albert Einstein, Marie Curie, Carl Sagan and Richard Feynman.

I don’t know if I would be able to understand any conversation between them. But I have noticed that the three men seemed to have funny senses of humour. The two I know most about were Feynman (one of his books is Surely you’re joking Mr Feynman) and Sagan (who wrote Cosmos and Contact among other books).

All of them were interesting people and I hope they would take pity on my lack of knowledge of Physics and the other sciences. Maybe it would be a difficult meal to host. I would research the food they liked and try and replicate it, but I would have to be careful not to cause them stomach problems!

Anyway it’s never going to happen. Fun imagining the guest list though.

It depends

What time do you go to bed and wake up currently?

I’m not sure when I’m going to bed if I’ll be able to sleep. So therefore I don’t know what time I will wake up! I’ll try and get to bed at the same time each night but then anxiety or pain or other health issues can keep me awake.

Basically I try and sleep on my sides or back, but then find I need to turn over, before having to move again. Never really getting comfortable. I also generally wake up once or twice during the night, which means that I often don’t get back to sleep again.

After a restless night I may sometimes stay asleep till lunchtime. It’s a good thing that I’m not working in a nine to five job!

Seeing more JWST pictures

What are you most excited about for the future?

I love images of space, they excite my artistic imagination. I’ve just been watching The Sky at Night, a BBC TV programme about space and astronomy. They had a special programme about the James Webb space telescope as it is the second anniversary of it sending back the first images it took.

JWST has superceeded the Hubble telescope as the foremost in imaging distant stars, nebulae and galaxies. It can see back in time almost to the big bang. And that was 13 billion years ago. It has been able to image data that indicates exo planets, and on a few occasions has actually been able to work out the chemical constituents of their atmospheres through spectroscopy. It has also given us different ways to image our closest neighbours, the planets of the solar system, for example using infra-red filters.

I am really looking forward to seeing new images from JWST, and maybe even trying to paint some of them. X

Classic or punk rock

What is your favorite genre of music?

Basically I like classical music and punk rock.

Classical because of the complexity of the music, punk because it was the sound of my youth.

I love Sibellius, Rachmanninof, Tchaikovsky, Mendelson, Stravinsky, Holst, and many more. I can’t name all the symphonies, concertos or other pieces of music they wrote. My memory for music is in the tune, not the detail.

For that reason I can also enjoy punk rock and music of that era, people like Blondie, Ultravox, The Police, Bowie, Elvis Costello.

But apart from a few, stand out songs I cannot remember the names of their songs, singles or albums. It’s like I have a blind spot in my memory. If I do a quiz I never get music questions right. It’s just weird!

Going abroad with a cold

Describe your most memorable vacation.

I went on holiday on a wine tasting tour with my relative. Unfortunately I started coming down with a cold on the coach. Soon my nose was red with sneezing and my throat was sore.

Over the channel and into Europe. I slept most of the way. I had thought that I would be able to order some aspirin in a shop, but I made the mistake of asking for it in a familiar way rather than the proper (formal) way with strangers. I got an disapproving look!

Two days of cold with runny nose. I don’t remember much, I couldn’t taste the wine, I didn’t know how to order food. Half of the trip was during a local holiday so the shops shut at midday.

Eventually it was time to come home. I enjoyed the scenery, the friendly vineyards and wine tasting cellars. But I was glad to be back on the coach.

The highlight? Watching ‘ The hunt for Red October’ video on the TV above my seat. It cheered me up and took my mind off the journey.

Yes but not telling

Have you ever had surgery? What for?

All stitched up?

Why should I share this information? Can I trust the person who is asking? Or the people who are reading this blog?… Sometimes we share too much information. It’s too easy to trust everyone on the Internet. And yet I wouldn’t tell people in the street my life story, my insurance details, if I’ve ever been in hospital. True I do share some information but as far as I can tell it’s of little use to others. I appreciate that it’s good to talk about your life, but I think you shouldn’t go too far.

Someone will be out there looking at your details putting two and two together, finding out about me. Well I’d rather not be too informative, I don’t think it’s a good idea.
