Colours

When you take a photo do you ever think of adjusting the colours or the hue? It’s easily done on a smart phone. You can use so thing called ‘curves’ where you can change all the colours, tones, contrast and dark and light using one tool. You have a curve indicating the colours and by adjusting the curve in different places…. I’ve taken a few screenshots to explain. First take a picture, then go to photo editor.

I don’t know how anyone else’s phone works, but in photo editor if you find the editing button in editor, choose the one for changing colours. The icon has a curve on it. Click on that and you can adjust the levels, you can see them move on the screen. When you like it choose save. You then have an image that looks completely mad, or subtle, or however you like it.

No need to water.

Despite the sunshine in these photos the rain keeps coming down. We have had a lot of blustery showers over the last few days and I’ve only had to water my hanging baskets a couple of times. I can’t get up the bit next to the house because it’s getting really overgrown. I think I’m going to have to take a few leaves off the tomato plants soon so what tomatoes we have get some sun to ripen them!

Run out of red

I want a light red

Not a pink

Not orange

Crimson?

Perhaps,

Maybe vermilion,

Something punchy,

Not magenta,

Not alizarian

Not a deep cadmium red (hue)

So many names

But which one will be right,

What is the correct tinge?

Works in progress

Paint laid on paint,

Building up layers,

Blood red?

Maybe if I put my heart into it.

A recurring theme

IMG_20190717_232527_420

I decided to join three photos together and duplicate them as I see the joined photo as similar to a mandala. The pattern concentrates my mind and I see faces in the resultant image. The green/red and yellow/purple of contrasting colours makes it all the more vibrant.

I’m also doing this because I want to avoid getting my paints out! I’ve got a craft stall in a couple of weekends and I have to admit I’m prevaracating. I know I’ve got to do art but I’m not sure what to do. A bit of an artists block again. I think it’s because I’ve been doing so much lately that my mind needs a rest. I will be ok though, just taking a breather.

Glass window?

sketch-1561764232238

I was playing around with a photo of the stained glass windows in the church and came up with this. I sort of like it although I’m not sure the church would. When you use flood fill it causes a loss of details so you can’t see the faces on the image. I chose a rainbow flood fill so could create circles on top of the image.

Circles

curves and angels

winged with colour

flying high.

Art with rainbows

Black reflections,

illuminating and obscuring.

Circular arguments,

simple shapes

scriptural thoughts

saints and sinners,

seperated by glass.

Tiles in the church

Today I got some photos of Minton tiles in St Thomas’s Church penkhull. I’ve got to paint some for the Mystery play so I needed to see the genuine article. I’m hoping I can get a realistic look to them. They are in a scene where they have to be sold to raise money.

What I like are the simple colours, browns, pale ochres, blues and white. The interesting geometric patterns and curves. I may struggle to replicate them. But you have to try!

Six trees painting

DSC_1985

Inspired by the Rode Hall bluebell walk we did a week ago. The vertical trunks that were so evenly spaced with the darker fence in front made a striking photo. I’m not sure if I’ve managed to capture that here. Bluebells are a difficult colour to capture. I tried mixing ultramarine with white, then when that didn’t work I used a bit of deep magenta, and also pale Windsor violet. I used a bit of metallic blue to give them a sparkle.

The trees are mainly sap green with yellow and white added.

About 12 x8 inches, acrylic on canvas.

Idea for a quilt

Just playing with the abstract pictures I drew, making a butterfly pattern then duplicating it, adding borders as if each piece was sewn together. I think I could make something out of this using cut pieces of patterned cloth using the butterfly as a template. I’m not sure about the colours as it gets mixed into the pattern. I wondered if I added some black to the background.

I sort of like the more random feel to this. At least I am being creative.
