I see bats 🦇 or 🐲 dragons!

Two llots of clouds mashed together, whispy and white, plus a bit of hedge round the back of the house, and you end up with something quite bizarre. An up sweep of wings, black, furry paws and legs. White contrails from aircraft. The sky is my canvas, I even see moths on either side. An Ariel rorschach test…. I see so much…

I saw a face….

I see faces in a lot of things. Tonight’s wispy clouds reminded me of a face. I think these are interesting clouds. You could see that the wind was pretty strong up there. The clouds were being blown across at 90° to the direction they were moving in, shearing them and dissolving them. The weather has cleared up a lot today, but it looks like we might be in for another bout of rain tomorrow.

Does anyone else like spotting clouds too? I used to lie down and look up at the sky. There is a lot up there!

Rained again tonight.

My friends and I set out late this evening for our weekly walk. We’ve been walking up my steep hill every week for a few weeks, but tonight it was not to be. We’d got about 20 yards when splat! Big drops of rain. Lots of big drops. At least there was no thunder, no lightening. Just rain!

So… We could see bright pink clouds over the brow of the hill so we decided to drive in seperate cars over the hill to the local viewpoint. I was hoping to se a lovely sunset, but no, by the time we stopped the rain was falling fiercely there as well.

Plan C, we went into a local bar for a cool drink. By this time one of my friends had found a plastic bag to put over her head.

As we entered we had our temperature checked. I was still wearing a mask and because the bar was quiet felt reasonably happy removing it.

But it’s baby steps. I’m nervous of mingling with people I don’t know. It’s not something I will do without some trepidation.

Cloudy evening

Clouds tonight, tiny specs of cloud and long mares tails. About 8pm tonight. The colours were beautiful and gentle. I think these clouds come before rain, so it might be thundering tomorrow.

At about six o’clock I saw this out of the landing window. A similar sort of cloud but without the whispy bits.

Looking up at clouds is fascinating. If you are interested you could look up the cloud appreciation society. There is a Facebook page about it.

Clouds

If you are bored, look up. You may be surprised at what you see. Clouds can be unicorns or dragons, fish or faces.

When I was young I would lie on my back and look up at the sky. Watching the clouds rush with rapidity or drift with stately slowness. Like the galleons I drew in my school exercise books. Then it was pirates racing to catch treasure ships.

Thunder clouds were mountains, or giant anvils, sometimes clouds looked like waves on the sea, or hills and beaches.

I gradually learnt a few of the names of clouds, cirrus, cumulo nimbus, stratus.  Each had a wonderful ring to them. Magical beauty flying high over head.

Later I learned a bit about chaos theory, and fractals. How if you magnify a bit of a cloud, the close up looks like the larger image. I heard songs like Cloudbusting by Kate Bush, and about clouds being seeded to make rain fall.

You see they are interesting creatures, even if they are not mythical beasts.

So, if you are interested, look up the cloud appreciation society. They have a page on Facebook. Their founder set up a group which people can join. They have a cloud of the month, and sometimes send out a newsletter.

With climate change, and the increase in severity of the weather, its interesting to find out how water vapour can be so beautiful and yet so wild.

Pink dawn

Sky to the East of us about 7. 10 am. Barometer showing fair but the old  saw that red sky in the morning is a shepherd’s warning seems appropriate after all the bad weather we’ve been having. Apparently if the sky is red its because the dawn is reflecting off the underside of clouds (yes I can see that), and that means the bad weather is more likely to be overhead now or later. Red sky at night shepherd’s delight? The weather will have passed over and be moving away. I guess the point is also that it depends what direction the wind is blowing in?!

Waiting for the next storm…. It will probably start with the letter E…. How many more?
