Evidence

sketch-1567763327101

Got up this morning and found an empty brie packet on the cupboard. It was like a crime scene with the brie kidnapped from the fridge and taken away. Silly I know! It’s just that I buy food for both of us and it’s annoying when it’s just eaten without leaving a bit for me.

I wanted to find something to write on to say ‘evidence’ to leave next to it. But it was five o’clock in the morning and I didn’t have the energy.

When I got up again it was gone, so the opportunity was lost…

He likes his coat.

Boy cat likes hubbies coat. If he gets a chance he will jump up and poddle it, (knead it with his front paws).

My hubby was in the garden earlier then left his coat on the armchair. Up comes uss catand jumps up. Now he’s curled up, snuggled. Must be a boy thing, scent and all that. He never sleeps on my coat (mind you I do hang mine up!). The trouble is when hubby comes in to sit down, cats snaffled his chair. They stare at each other. Will boy cat move? Hubby looks at him, he looks at hubby. I say ‘are you wanting to sit on your seat?’ Hubby lifts cat up, claws attached to coat! Cat comes and poddles my knee!

Memory

If you can’t read the writing it says (bit truncated) weeping window, 31. 8.18, middleport pottery.

The drawing is of thousands of ceramic poppies which were displayed on the bottle oven at Middleport pottery, middleport, Stoke-on-Trent in August last year. These poppies had travelled round the country to commemorate the men who had fallen in the first World War.

At one stage the poppies were not going to come to Stoke-on-Trent despite thousands of them being made here. I for one am glad they came.

Free seeds

_20190904_163250 packets of seeds….. Free!

What a lovely surprise, a gardening magazine we sometimes get had seven free packets of seeds with it today. Most of them are worth about £3 each so that means about £20 worth of free flowers.

The other good thing is they can be planted now in late summer or early autumn to establish plants for next years display. All I have to do is dig out a load of nettles so I can plant these out!

The garden is very overgrown so I’m getting someone in to help cut it back a bit. I love it but it’s hard work having big trees and shrubs. A warning, you need to keep on top of stuff to keep it looking good. Anyway I’m hoping by tomorrow I will be feeling a bit better and can do something.

Questions

sketch-1567603287074

What do you do on a wet Wednesday when you are still feeling ill with a cold? Why not watch prime ministers question time? It was fascinating. (I’m probably being boring) the leader of the opposition asked some serious questions and the prime minister waffled. He went off on a tangent, avoided answering the questions. Blustered, smirked, was sarcastic. It was almost like watching a soap opera! I genuinely wanted to boo and hiss! Not done my blood pressure any good.

I think though, that it is important to know what’s going on in politics. The world is a complicated place and if you don’t keep yourself informed you can’t argue for or against them.

Rain

Untitled56_001

The rain comes down harder and faster these days. When I was a child I remember gentle rain, now it seems to soak in seconds. Water has a way of getting into everything when it falls. Like a cold shower it wakes you up, startling you as it splashes in your face. It was once said that there is no bad weather, just being inappropriately dressed for it. Nowadays I’m not so sure.

Flight

_20190903_200526

The light flew across the sky, something not seen for centuries on the Earth.

The world had overheated in the previous millennia, viruses and bacteria had spawned a plague and 90% of the population had died before a cure was found. The remaining humans were all children, the fate of their parents leaving them in a world of technology they could partly use but not maintain.

Then came the explosions, nuclear power plants went offline, nuclear bombs rotted in their silos. Crops and fruit failed. A few books had been left, some technical papers, but the schools were gone. Children grew to adulthood and learnt to hunt and gather like their ancestors. Technology was stored in caves, but without power could not be used.

Then came wars over food and clean water. People living near reservoirs were lucky, but those downstream were cut off as the pumping stations failed. Humans were close to extinction. As the fable said ‘how the mighty had fallen’.

But a few people learned electronics from taking old things apart then putting them back together. They tinkered and played, and a light rose in the sky which was artificial. Who knew what would happen next?

Lead glass

_20190903_181145

Lead glass has lead added to it to make it more malleable when it’s being formed into things like lead crystal glasses (although apparently it’s not actually got a crystalline structure). Modern lead glass about 24% lead ( Pb) in it.

It’s renound for its clarity and is shown off when it is engraved with fine lines and geometric patterns.

Together

_20190426_185157_optimizedDSC_2171

I know when the nights are drawing in and it’s getting colder. The cats start sleeping on their cat tree in front of the radiator. They only like the platforms next to each other. Neither of them want to be ‘top cat’ and to sit on the highest platform. There is a bit of territorial rivalry though because one cat always sits on the left side and the other on the right.

I haven’t written much today. I’m not well, but this sight amused me this morning x.

Singing

sketch-1567425758985

I’ve missed singing for the last couple of weeks, one choir I’m in breaks up for the summer and the leader of the other is away on holiday. I love the boost singing gives me. It releases endorphins which improve your mood and helps lower stress. What prompted this was hearing an item on a radio programme where choirs who have a complaint about something ( like the price of fuel?) get together and write a song about the issue then sing it out. The idea is you sing cheerfully but express your complaint. Apparently this is happening all over the world. The item was on BBC radio 4 and may be on the BBC sounds app.
