Glass star

Small pieces of coloured glass embedded in diamond shaped clear glass which is joined at the centre to form a star. This is an example of fused glass which my hubby made at a workshop a couple of years ago. This summer it’s been outside in the garden but I will bring it back in and hang it in a window when the weather starts to get frosty. I don’t know whether it would break in the cold but I would like to keep it safe. Its about the pleasure of making things and the memories of the friendly people who were there that adds to the experience. Made in a group led by Angela Ashton. Glass artist.

I need to go back…

My studio, I’m still nervous because of the delta variant of covid to go back into it. I need to paint but I’ve got that feeling that I’m on a knife edge, I don’t know what to do? It’s strange, I’m spending the money but for almost two years now I have felt very worried. Maybe I need some talking therapy, everything is getting too much….

Soon I’ll be scenery painting…

Panto rehearsal started tonight. I’ve offered to help paint the scenery again and I might get a few lines to speak. It’s been a couple of years since we did it because of covid.

This is a picture of me painting a banner for a mystery play that we did a few years ago (based on the willow pattern). I love getting involved in these projects.

Sea painting

Watercolour sketch, I think it was in Cornwall or Devon, one day we’d gone down to a harbour and I used to take watercolours and sketch pads with me on our visits. Sometimes I left them at our holiday let’s as a gift to say thank you for a lovely time.

The geology of Devon and Cornwall includes dark craggy rocks which is why I recognise the area.

Reflected idea

Tuesdays #bandofsketchers prompt was based on the prompt ‘reflection’. I hadn’t got much time, so I based this on a mirrored photo of one of my cats, the little female one.

I took the liberty of changing the colour to hold with different patterns on each cats coat. The hearts are for how much I love my cats, I also feel it looks a bit like a playing card.

Adding a ‘filter’

Using plastic wrap as a type of filter….

If you don’t have an app to add a filter why not use something real instead? Here I used some crumpled plastic wrapping paper to put over the top of my abstract drawing of a face. It almost looks like the lines are printed on the plastic. Remember, experiment, have fun!

Fish

My watercolour of goldfish I did this April. I just came across this while I was looking back at my previous art.

I was talking to someone yesterday about letting white paper come through in watercolours. I rarely soak the paper before I start painting and I frequently mix up strong colours, leaving patches of white where I want to show light coming through. The way I think about it is that I can control the paint without having to use masking fluid… And it’s cheaper tgan using white paint or gouache.
