Driving

What makes you nervous?

As you get older you become more aware of your infirmities. If you are sensible you will take that into account when you drive. It’s not just for your benefit, it’s for the people who are driving or who are travelling around you.

Things like sight, strength, hand eye coordination, reaction times are all important. You must notify the relevant authorities if there is something wrong with you.

There are many places I would have happily visited until recently, but I’m nervous of travelling any distance without someone alongside me. I will continue to take care and drive carefully and not put anyone else at risk.

Wire fairy

Wire fairy I made 4 years ago and a sketch of it. I enjoyed making it although I would say it’s not as delicate as the ones I’ve seen at Trentham Gardens in Stoke on Trent, England, where there are some lovely examples. In fact looking at it again I’d call it an Imp, not a fairy!

It resides somewhere in my garden, probably overgrown by the laurel bush that is overwhelming the bottom of the garden.

Fall asleep

How do you unwind after a demanding day?

I don’t sleep well at night

But after a demanding day?

I fall asleep in the chair

I close my eyes and hours

Days? Go by…

Sleep is a benefit and a curse

Memories and dreams

Nightmares and revelations

Thoughts and fears

After that I go to bed

Insomnia hits like a brick

And I lie awake for hours.

Posting stuff

How do you use social media?

I post inanities, some profanities.

I post comments and responses, photos and art, I share posts and repost. Much of it isn’t important. I’ll ask people to answer questions, like can you name an A to Z of fruit? Or do you remember TV programmes in the 60’s or 70’s? And of course I post pictures of my cats.

I post here and at other sites such as Facebook. I sometimes write poems or short stories. I try and come up with interesting digital sketches and art. Exploring fine art ideas and creating new paintings. I sometimes even create pottery or sculpture.

I occasionally play games online but I’m not keen on video games or whatever it’s called now. I sometimes look up facts but I tend to rely on my own knowledge and understanding. I’m no influencer, that’s not what I’m interested in. But it makes for a more varied life and keeps me occupied (too much)! Plus you get to meet interesting and unusual people xxxx

Opticians poster

This poster is in our opticians waiting room. His grandfather is the Hanwell on the poster. It was done in the 1930’s I think by an illustrator called Wilfrid Sheard who was a private in the second world war and died in 1967. You can find his details on Google.

The picture is a bit disconcerting. The man sits on the road with missing lower legs, his boots strewn across the road. He’s clearly been hit by a bus. His glasses are broken. The sign says “Never Mind – HANWELL will replace them in an hour or two!”

New home

A friend now has this painting of Koi carp swimming at a pool in a garden centre I did a few years ago. Perhaps I will have to do more wobbly paintings now I have Parkinsons disease. I hate the thought I might not be able to paint. Someone asked me today what I was going to do if I don’t paint. I don’t know. It’s always been part of me. I know my manual dexterity is deminishing. I hope something can be done about it. At the moment I’m mentally staring at the ocean not sure if I can dip my toes in anymore?

Marylin

It’s a drawing of Marylin Monroe I did at a website called sketchfu about 11 years ago. It was a very basic site but it got overwhelmed with users. The owners became difficult to contact as they were setting up a new site called Muzy. Sadly Sketchfu closed. I managed to save a lot of my drawings but I know a lot of artists lost theirs  and must have been very disappointed when it closed.

Digital art 8 years ago

Another semi abstract digital drawing that popped upon my Facebook memories, long enough ago that I can’t remember the apps I used.

I’ve noticed that if I draw profiles of faces I usually draw them facing left. That might be because my right hand might obscure the drawing of they faced right. I did ask some other artists and concluded the left handed ones draw profiles facing right? But the sample size (3 or 4 people) is far too small to draw an accurate conclusion. I also draw horses heads and other animals facing left. I do wonder why.

Clutter

Artist ‘stuff’, paints, paintings, canvases, brushes, boxes, sketch pads, heaters, all my ornaments on the mantelpiece. Carrier bags. I’ve never been this cluttered. Some of its going to have to go. But it’s cheaper than renting the studio. I not letting many people in till I sort it out! But it’s storage not hoarding (yet!)
