I really must get all my paintings stored down at my studio. These are a tryptich of Jupiter. I need some work doing on the house, but I’ve got things hanging around that could be put away safe, they are up in the bedroom where I’m doing college work and everything is crammed together on one side of the room. Plus I actually have a commission. Someone contacted me. My first real job this year! I need to start getting things sorted out…. Spring cleaning – in late July. Perhaps I will get it done by September! In the meantime I need to get the college work done. The date for handing in work is soon. Help!
We got a nice shed so my hubby could have somewhere to store all his bikes and bike bits. But something has migrated in there. OO guage trains, hornby dublo and triang, have moved in. The bikes, tyres, tubes, wheels have been evicted to various bushes in the garden, sheltering from summer showers.
Trying to explain that if he gets a couple of storage boxes or some shelves. He could put things away and not have to step over train transformers to get in. Also if we get a pasting table he won’t have to kneel on the floor… I don’t think being organised is his strong suit….
My world is full of stuff
it’s mainly layers of paper.
Carefully stored in piles.
I might use that photo as an inspitation,
For a painting or a drawing,
I might need that statement,
I might read that book
But piles of stuff turn into columns,
Columns start to tower over you.
Idea. ” I’ll tidy up”.
Trouble is you have to deconstruct.
Build new towers to winnow out stuff.
Some stuff to burn or shred,
Some stuff to give to charity,
Some stuff to read,
Some stuff to pile back up,
till I find space on a bookshelf……
I’ll just go and lie down in a darkened room.
Where do you store your brushes when you have been painting? Please don’t store them with the ends of the brushes facing downwards, in water or turps, its a bad habit and can ruin your brushes.
Brushes are not cheap. They come in various sizes, shapes, types of bristles and handles.
They range from the tiniest brush with a good point, to very large flat headed brushes which could almost be used by a painter and decorator.
Types of bristles can be made of sable, hog hair, squirrel and other animal hairs. If these sable is the softest and easiest to get good results with. A brush with strong hard bristles can be used to roughy cover large areas and block in colours.
For me a synthetic hair works best. It tends to be flexible yet durable. The cost is usually slightly less than sable.
Going back to storage.. Gently clean your brushes under luke warm running water if you can. Sometimes if the brush is still loaded with paint I will swirl the head of it round in the palm of my hand while rinsing it under the tap. This releases the paint. If I was using oil based paint I would use a little substitute turps and rinse the brush in a jar of the first, then to clean it thoroughly I would use a bit of washing up liquid in the palm of my hand and a tap running warm water and just rinse the brush till the water runs clear.
Once the brushes are clean dry them on a little kitchen towel. This also helps to assess if all the paint has gone.
Place your brushes with the brush heads facing upwards and all the bristles smoothed back into the correct shape of the brush head. You can use your mouth and lips to repoint delicate brushes. By storing them this way they will dry better, the brushes will not end up bent almost in half, and the bristles will not end up glued together with paint. Brushes are a valuable commodity and correct storage will save you money by not having to buy as many replacements.
I’ve found this new phone so light and easy to use in comparison with my tablet that I’ve been using it for all sorts of things on the Internet. Unfortunately that means I’ve filled the sd card up so it’s saving stuff to the internal memory. Which is getting very full too. I guess all my images are clogging it up.
I think I will have to revert back to using the tablet which also slows down as I keep putting images on it. You would think there would be more memory, so all my stuff would be OK but I’m always messing about with things, for instance duplicating photos to make the image above.
I don’t know whether saving things to the cloud might be an idea? Or getting a little external USB hard drive if that’s even possible?
