Salmon and garlicky pasta (with or without salmon)

DSC_2724

not neat, but tasty..

Ingredients,

About a table spoon of cooking oil,

Salmon fillet (or not for vegetarian)

1/2 aubergine, diced into small cubes,

1 courgette / zucchini, grated finely

1 sweet pepper cut into small squares

1/2 a can of chopped tomatoes

3 cloves garlic, crushed,

Spiral pasta, 2 handfulls

Method

Heat the oil in the pan, add the aubergine cubes, add the sweet pepper pieces, brown gently then add the grated courgette. Add the tinned tomatoes, mix and cook for a few minutes. Add the crushed garlic and the salmon on top of the mix, cook for a few minutes then turn the fish over. Lower the heat from medium low to low and gently simmer for about 5 minutes.

In the meantime put two handfuls of pasta (I had multi coloured spiral pasta in) with boiling water and cook on a medium heat till softened.

Drain and then add the pasta to the other pan. Serve the fish on top of the pasta and vegetables.

(I grate the courgette because it cooks quicker and makes the sauce feel thicker). You could add a squeeze of lemon juice.

Washing machine broken!

2020-06-16-18-51-27

The panel that lights up on our washing machine is not working. It’s just not lighting, so the touch activated panel won’t work. I can’t programme it. The dial next to it is beeping so it’s clear it is on, it’s so annoying. I wanted to get a wash done.. Nothing. So what do I do? I’m trying to get someone to come out. I don’t want to replace it. It’s a good machine. Replacing is expensive and wastes resources. Fixing saves money and you don’t have to throw the thing away. The problem is the lock down, but as non essential shops have opened we might be able to do something.

Fingers crossed…

Thunder and lightening.

Having a massive thunderstorm. The rain was drumming on the kitchen roof and my hubby went outside to turn off the electric power outside.

The storm blew over about ten minutes ago but now it sounds like it’s coming back. You can work out the distance it is away from you by watching when the flash happens and then counting the seconds until the thunder rolls again. Every second is half a mile. So if you see the flash and count six seconds. Then theΒ  Β  storm is three miles away. Anyway its come back again. About two miles away. The rain gives life I suppose, but everything is very wet now! The thunder I rattling the windows.. I was nodding off but the noise woke me up!

Won a zoom quiz

_20200615_224535

It was a bit chaotic, but fun. Questions included what whale and bridge have the same name (humpback). Who sang my boy lollypop (millie small), mimi was a character in which opera (la boheme). We were half a point in front at the end. It was a close run thing. Teamwork is so important. Seven teams, how can you have so much fun online? Did I say? We won!

Art…

_20200510_012931

The Sunday Times newspaper has run an article which compares essential and non essential workers.

Their survey had a list of images, essential has doctors I think at the top, and artists at the top of non essential jobs. So it says artists are the least essential workers?

I feel this argument should be challenged.

So no one ever designs things using their artistic skills, or paints scenery, or designs art for their walls, or cars, or wallpaper, or covers for books, or diagrams for science books, or medical textbooks. Or designs for online gaming art, or creating beautiful jewellery, or clothes or shoes. Or patterns on China and pottery. No art is used in news papers to show images of essential or non essential workers, how could anyone be employed to illustrate anything? No one ever read a cartoon or a children’s book! Obviously……! No one ever drew rainbows for the NHS. Children don’t need art to learn how to understand biology or architecture or any other complex concept. Richard Feynmann and Steven Hawking never used pictures to explain their theories of quantum mechanics. What about technical drawing? But… statues are now grey boxes, Leonardo is a turtle…. And he was never drawn!

Feet in lockdown

I’m writing something first incase you don’t like feet…

My chiropodist a appointment was due but I haven’t heard anything. Being diabetic I get them done professionally by the local health centre because of the risk of cutting myself. I can only just reach my toenails. But then I struggle to see what I’m doing. My nails were about 1/3″ long and very uncomfortable, but when I rang I was told that the podiatrist is not seeing anyone. Given my hubby is not very handy or careful, and my sister lives eighty miles away, I ‘had a go’ I’ve just managed to cut them a little and shorten them. Then I found a foot file to take the brittle sharp edges away. I’ve sort of made the image a bit abstract so it doesn’t look as scary. The nails are still quite long… πŸ˜•

Anyone seen a dalek?

IMG_20130101_000120

A couple of years ago we saw a Dalek on a station (I think it was Froghall) in the Staffordshire moorlands. Memory fades, but I know I had a short video of it perambulating backwards and forwards along the platform. I remember looking for who was running it. The original ones on TV in the sci-fi series Doctor Who, were moved by people inside the Daleks, pedalling them along.

This one was being moved by a remote control I think. I saw a man with a radio controller in his hand. Later we went to look at a model Tardis in the station itself. Tardis stands for Time and relative dimensions in space. Anyone who is a Doctor Who fan would know that.

It’s not often that you bump into an iconic 1960’s TV character in real life.
