Today’s challenge on #MendNotTrend (day four) was to create something three dimensional out of string or plastic and perhaps draw it or draw the idea of what it would look like if you didn’t have anything to work with. So I cut a carrier bag in half (down the front, then down the back) leaving it uncut at the bottom. I twisted both sides by the handles to make a plastic ‘rope’. I then looped it through one handle and looped into the loop over and over, finishing at the other handle loop…. See photos. I finally drew the outcome…

Now the UK has left the European Union it looks like our government may allow the use of nicotinoid pesticides again.
Worrying that the government has ‘taken back control’ and can now do what the hell it likes.
We are not in a position where we should be killing insects. Certainly not killing Bees. They are tied into the pollination of food crops, of flowers, of fruit. Why would we want them killed? Madness….

Moss klinging to the church wall. That wall is blackened by years of coal smoke pollution that was burnt on house hearths and to fire up the bottle ovens that fired the pottery made in old factories. In those days I doubt that moss would have grown on the church wall even in Penkhull village which stands on a hill above most of the city. The city has transformed over the years and is now much cleaner.
You can see photos of the hundreds f bottle ovens that crowded the city. The smoke belched out of them. Look up the Potteries Museum and Art Gallery and Gladstone Pottery Museum on the net for more information.

Looking out of the screen, sad eyes, sad mouth. Playing with textures can change how we view an image. Somehow most of the face is similar to the background, but the eyes and mouth are less distorted. But the nose seems to de disappearing…

If you want something difficult to draw with try one of those ink rollers that you can cover over your name and address with.
I decided to see how it would handle. The answer? Hard to manipulate. Difficult to draw thin and curved lines.
Anyway, this is a profile portrait of my hubby.

The challenge is to copy a Bonnard painting. I’ve tried to copy this square., number three. I know I’ve made it too wide. My other two squares were painted in watercolour and felt pens, so this time I decided to use metallic coloured pencils. I’m afraid I gave up a bit on the vegiration. Trying to copy something from a photo on your phone while holding a sketchpad and drawing isn’t easy. I changed the colours because the pencils I was using were to pale..
I have an Arthur Berry picture of a woman’s head, a pastel drawing. I got it a couple of years ago and I remember him as one of my tutors when I was at college a few decades ago. He was an interesting man, author, artist, playwrite, poet. The potteries Lowry. His technique was unique. Dark pastels and charcoal, depicting the potteries, it’s surroundings, its characters. Laughter and humour is part of it. I love his work.

The challenge today was to created a printed, sculptural image. That was hard, I only have a round gold stamp and a black roller printer with letters. I also used a gold pen. This is called Cogs. Tried to get some movement in it!

I’m not really convinced by it, but we are meant to be creating abstracts, so perhaps I was being too literal?
