Wet

I looked out this morning and the wind was whistling down the hill and rain was pouring down. But we had it lightly, about eighty miles and further north of here, rivers have flooded and a couple of footbridges have been swept away. Then later today there was news of someone possibly being swept away by a river.

When I think about the buildings collapsing into flooded rivers in South Asia recently it just underlines how much rain is being dropped on the land in some places. Because the atmosphere is getting hotter it can hold more water which consequently precipitates in greater amounts when it does rain. Flooding events that were once in a decade or a century are becoming more frequent. We have to act. I don’t know about political slogans like ‘levelling up’ but I think the heavy rains are ‘levelling down’ and washing the ground away from humanities feet!

Autumn woman

This is my painting ‘autumn woman’ I did a few years ago. I wish I was doing more art like this but I’ve really been overwhelmed by trying to do other college work. There are other things I need to do too. This covid pandemic have made my introverted ways even more entrenched. I wish I had the freedom I used to have. But self isolation and protecting myself have been my consideration all the way through. My hubby and I still insist on wearing masks… Although many seem to have forgotten the need for them, forgotten or are ignoring. Our prime minister does not show a good example… Oh I must not stray into politics!

Hey ho! Got to find my mojo!

Still 🤒

I am trying to drag myself out of an illness today, but all that seems to happen is that I fall asleep. Its only a stomach bug (enough information), but it really hit me yesterday.

Should I blog about this? I’m only explaining because I’m usually here everyday, writing endless things about art or silly poems. I do wonder sometimes if there is a point? Would anyone miss my words. It’s when you’re feeling a bit down that you start to question why I do this. Is it like vanity publishing? I wonder…

Would you go into space?

Mosaic at the BCB

With the advent of space travel becoming available for space tourists I wonder if its something I would go for.

The cost is exorbitant, in the millions, and the risks must be considered. Also the ones that are going are either very rich or famous. I don’t begrudge them doing it, but I hope this doesn’t turn into a new thing to do on their ‘bucket list’. Maybe instead of going into space for ten minutes they could donate that money to pay for covid vaccines in poor countries, or support working towards cutting pollution or reducing global warming.

Instead of selfish joy rides these space tourists should be more considerate. Me? If I could afford it I would stay with my feet firmly on the ground!

The Trick, a review.

I’ve just watched a TV programme about climate change called the Trick. I don’t know if you can get the BBC but it was very informative and interesting. It was about the way anti climate change supporters hacked into scientific information and twisted it to try and discredit the scientists. These were scientists who had produced the hockey stick graph which shows that global temperatures were relatively steady on Earth until the industrial revolution and then started a steep increase.

The Trick is based in 2015. A scientist and his colleagues are accused of exaggeration of global warming, based on emails that were hacked and deliberately misinterpreted to throw doubt on the reality of climate change.

The programme showed how the scientist had to defend his reputation and the serious harm it did to his mental health and to his family while investigations were ongoing.

In the end his insight was accepted. He was exonerated and he was reinstated in his job. But it did mean that public opinion was skewed and that it cost at least ten years in fighting global warming because of the actions of vested interests.

An intelligent BBC film that is very worth watching. Don’t expect car chases, do expect strong acting and thought provoking ideas.

Virtue Signalling?

I’m having a discussion about various political issues and I suddenly realised when I share my opinions I could be said to be virtue signalling. Then I thought who comes up with these phrases and why?

I really do think we have entered an age of Orwellian ‘newspeak’. I think it’s always happened, but the phrase collateral damage, instead of saying innocent casualties was the start of it.

People weave words to obfuscate (hide their meaning). It might be to save people’s feelings, or to confuse people by misleading them. Perhaps the tricks and cons that advertisers have used have spread into politics and ordinary life.

I may be being harsh. But with climate change and the damage to the Earth from pollution, its about time we cut out the confusion and started being honest again!

Dragon sculptures

I’m doing a project about dragons for college and suddenly I keep seeing them. Today there were two dragon sculptures in our local garden centre. It’s like if you own a certain type of car you will see that type everywhere. Own a mini? No doubt you will see them. Just mentioning a type of car and I think it prompts your brain to notice them.

Anyway I think dragons I will be spotting all over the place for the next few days.

Can’t sleep

Tired, shaking, aching. Can’t rest, can’t get comfortable, can’t sleep. Too hot, too cold. Got a slight cough. Feeling miserable. Not ill. The injured calf muscle is difficult to position, too painful after three weeks. I’ve slept on the settee with my legs resting on cushions on a stool because straightening my leg makes it cramp up. My sleeping mask that I have to wear to keep my throat from stopping me breathing is rubbing on my nose and puffs of air from it disturb me as I try to nod off. Occasionally I’ve slept in an armchair instead, cushioned up and curled in a ball. I want to go to bed, upstairs. But I’m scared like the Grand old Duke of a Yorks men I will end up halfway. Neither up nor down.

Injury is not only frustrating, it’s confidence sapping too. You don’t trust yourself incase something happens to make it worse. So instead I’m sitting tapping on my phone. Dithering in the cool night air, wanting to be snuggled and comfy. Feeling fed up.

Fridge Freezer

We’ve had a bad couple of months. I’m expecting the fridge freezer to break soon, it keeps filling up with water in the chiller compartment and the freezer gets too cold. Then the bearings in it make loud rattling and creaking noises….

Other things have happened. The cat going missing and being injured, and me pulling my calf muscle. Family and friends have had problems too. The pandemic has hit their incomes. They are working hard against almost impossible conditions. I don’t know what will happen, I just want things to be better for everyone, not just those closest to me.

I would help many people if I could. Love to you all…
