New paintings and regular art updates.

Twelve years ago, another cat we took in as a stray. He wasn’t microchipped. He was going in a local shop and climbing on their shelves, they didn’t like it so we took him in…. He used to sit in the middle of the road waiting for me to come home. Sadly he was injured by a car and had to have an operation to save his leg. He recovered but a year later he was knocked over again. I was so sad to lose him. I think he was the silliest cat I ever met. I even used to draw cartoons of him having adventures. Climbing trees, balancing on fences, stealing steaks!

Watching sky portrait artist of the year. I’ve done a finger painting of an editor called Vanessa Kingori, trouble is you don’t see the sitter for long so it’s a very sketchy drawing. Artrage app.

Sketchbook app using the watercolour pen options to create a flowing, wet in wet effect. It’s a portrait of my hubby, watching TV on a quiet Sunday afternoon. I’m so pleased I found my stylus (I had to glue it back together) it’s much more controlled than simple finger painting.

When you lay a sketchpad flat and draw something or someone it makes the image elongated if you look at it from above. This is because the image stretches but is foreshortened by the angle you are drawing from. I hope this makes sense? Anyway this is an ink drawing with an italic pen. It is of my hubby reading.

I just got an email to tell me I didn’t get this in the Three counties open exhibition…. Perhaps I should have gone with a traditional portrait. Oh well, I’m old enough not to be too disappointed. I guess I will try again next year. My work will be on display and up for sale on Acava Spode Open day in a few weeks. I need to check the date. I need to go and sort out my studio and create an exhibition there instead. I’m enjoying painting in a slightly abstracted way, I think it fits in with my style?

Seven years ago I had a small exhibition at Etruria Industrial museum. This blurry photo just came up on my Facebook memories.
The blurry image of my painting was taken from a photo of my friend with a white elephant she had made of paper and willow withies. She was sewing a rich red and yellow fringe around it as way of hiding the legs of the person who was to carry it. The back had a hollow ‘houda’ I think its called? Like a basket to sit in. This was so a person could carry the elephant but look like they were riding it. I loved this representation of the elephant and decided to paint this image. My friend had the painting. The elephant? I think it was destroyed in a fire in the shed where it was stored…

To reduce my stress levels I decided to start a small watercolour of my friend Martha’s dog. I’ve been promising it for ages, but with everything that’s been going on I decided to wait until I felt slightly happier. Anyway, the floodgates finally opened today and I was able to finish two portraits. So why not make another start. It’s nice to use watercolours again. Hard to keep the colours light enough. I shall post it soon, about A5 size.

Tribute to my lost sister, as a young woman. I promised it but it’s taken months to finish. Perhaps I can finally move on? It sat half done, staring at me. But I feel she is at rest. Art has always been my freedom. I can work through my feelings when I do it. Life has to go on, even though its sometimes really tough.

I could have continued to adjust this but I’m tired out and my arm is shaking too much. The entry date is Monday for the three counties open exhibition with Keele University in Staffordshire. I didn’t want to leave it till the last minute. Wish me luck!
