At the exhibition

My portrait of hubby actually up on the wall at the Brampton open exhibition in Newcastle under Lyme. I’m so proud to share this with the world. It’s called mend him. I started it at my studio at Spode and finished it there after he passed away. It was my last painting at Spode.

It’s on till 22nd December 24 so a lot of people will see it. I hope they like it. The painting is covered in cracks as if he is broken and then the idea of using gold lines to hold him together like a broken japanese pot. X

Terry

Ten year old sketch. I used to like drawing people when we went out to the local pub, or to visit friends. It’s just an easy and quick way of keeping my hand in for drawing portraits.

There are groups you can join on the Internet to draw portraits of each other but I always forget its on until it’s over and I hardly go anywhere anymore.

Cats eyes

Sitting in the dark watching TV, the cat decided to jump up on the back of the chair. So I put my camera in selfie mode. I don’t look too good but I couldn’t focus in on the cat easily. She looks like she’s a bit unsure about the whole caper!

I’m busy trying to sort out some paperwork today, but I’ll be back later. I should get some photos in the garden of cherry and pear blossom if I get time.

It would have been…

His birthday,

He was no fool

We would have had on this day

A walk by a pool?

It would have been a grand day

Even if it rained

The sun is shining today

But he’s not here, my friend.

I’m sitting feeling lonely

His life came to an end

He had so much to give

Love and hugs, not only

A great wish to live!

Mend him

From the Internet ‘Kintsugi, (literally gold seams) is a traditional repair method that takes the broken or chipped parts of cherished vessels, glues them back together with a Japanese lacquer, and paints the seams with gold or silver powder.’

I’ve taken that idea to create this possibly last portrait of my hubby. It’s called ‘Mend Him’, and it’s my wish to put him back together again. It’s a bit rough and ready, but it expresses my feeling of loss. I think it captures his tiredness as he got older… I started this a few months before he died.

I miss him so much and if I could I would mend him, turn back time, use any power available to restore him to his best. X

Another portrait

Oh I am forgetful! is this Cate Blanchett? I think she played the lady Galadriel in the Lord of the Rings films. I drew this about the time the films came out and it’s another sketchfu digital drawing. It’s not perfect but I am quite pleased with it and have good memories of the site.

Frodo portrait

Another digital portrait I did on the Sketchfu site. I’m quite pleased that I could use simple tools and create images like this it’s sketchy round the edges because you could only use set sizes of pens, there was no sliding scale of thickness. But there was a good pallette, opacity and transparency tools so I could blend colours to some extent. This is based on a photo of Frodo from the Lord of the Rings film. He is holding his sword Sting.
