Rose

DSC_1980

I saw this in a cafe this morning and took a photo of it. More pink than red, in full bloom, beautiful. A classic rose shape, a whorl of petals and a swirl of colour. I like the way the petals fold back giving their edges a more angular look. The green leaf attached to it is pure green and adds a contrast in colour.

I wouldn’t say it was a brilliant photo, the background is over exposed, as is the rose slightly. It’s not fully in focus, but I like it anyway.

A place to visit

FB_IMG_1558098847120

I must go back and visit Jodrell bank again. Maybe its somewhere to get Stoke urban sketchers to go to. I know it’s in the Cheshire countryside but it’s not too far away at Holmes Chapel. It’s certainly a challenging draw. I know I had a go ages ago. If my hubby was here he would be explaining how parts of it are off a battleship or something, I don’t remember…. So anyway yes it’s a fascinating place to visit, although I think it’s half term next week so it might be very busy.

Dot dot

Sparkle, shine, glitter

I was playing with one of my phone picture editing apps and came across something that pixelates in dots not squares.

I turned it into a black and white image, then added colours with a flood fill option in another app. sketch-1558111779786

I did more to it by using my phone editing suite. I went to the curves section which allows you to adjust the colours and brightness and adjusted it to make it more interesting.

I’ve ended up with a dotty abstract.

All grown up

Occasionally my friend posts a photo of the male cats that she had from us when they were kittens. It’s two years since they left and they certainly have grown. They look a lot like their mother. They seem to be very close to each other.

To be honest I would love to visit and see them but they are a bit too far away.

Anyway I pinched this photo to remind me if them. Hope you like it.

Garden stag

FB_IMG_1556880024333

Walking round a garden centre a couple of weeks ago. This huge statue was for sale. Far outside my price bracket it’s cost was far lower than some of the garden buildings being sold there. Some of them cost more than my house  in fact you might have to take out a mortgage to afford to pay for them.

The photo is courtesy of my friend who was with us on the day.

Balcony

Wherefore art thou?

High up on the wall of the Brampton museum and art gallery is a lovely balcony. I want to visit the room and look out over the parkland in front of the museum but I think its probably a store room.

I think it’s a sweet little touch to the architecture of the place. I’ve visited before but never noticed it until today. Probably because the strong sunlight and shadows picked it out against the brickwork.

Modern architecture can be startling and revelatory, but details like this should be cherished.

Red and Green

DSC_1492

I took this today and noticed how much bright red was in it and subtle greens to compliment it. Even the plant food and bits of the labels on the washing up liquid are red. Splashes of colour lift this photo, making it zing. I was going to crop it, but I also like the door handle on the left side mimicking the curve of the tulip stems. The green leaves and sponge and washing up liquid are complementary. Even the cloth on the cupboard helps to hold it together. More if a still life than a photo. Objects can just spring out at you. Especially when you get a bit of sunshine to enhance the shapes of the vase and tulip flowers.

Cat watching

_20190220_011822

In 50 years of owning or being owned by cats none of them have ever properly watched TV. Oh Yes they have stared at it in a disinterested way. If they happen to be facing in that direction, but nothing stirred them.

That changed  with my female cat which I have had for a couple of years. She started by watching little things like birds and mice, but she really did get interested when we watched cat programmes. Now she seems really into things like lions. I got a few photos a couple of months ago of her standing up and looking at the screen. How does she know, or not, that there is a genetic linkage with big cats? Do they move in a similar way? Was it the noises they were making….. I don’t know. I think it’s cute behaviour and I also think she’s a lot cleverer than her brother.. . You should see her play.
