Trying to do a self portrait

Not right yet, eyes too close together, my nose is too long. But it’s getting there slowly. I need to try and make the eyes slightly smaller too. I tend to paint self portraits straight on although I might try and do a three quarter profile one instead as it can be more dynamic. This took about an hour and a half. In acrylic on canvas.

Lovely flower

I don’t remember taking this photo. I think it might be from a free photo library. It’s in my media files. Anyway I just want to start planting up my pots with lovely flowers like this. Ideally I’d like a friend to be here to keep an eye on me and perhaps help with heavier pots. I love creating a colourful garden in the yard for the summer. Fingers crossed I can still do it.

Fish cushion

Embroidered fish cushion. 1st normal, 2nd short 15 second  night exposure, 3rd put through photodirector.

You know when you see something and you just have to take a photo. Then I was explaining how to take a long, 60 second exposure to someone but it was bright enough at 15 seconds. Finally I used the photodirector app again to add some texture.

This is not my embroidery, it’s a kneeling cushion in the local church. I thought it was really interesting, and had to take a photo.

Strawberries and Cream

It’s not Summer, not even Spring, but Strawberries are out in the shops and are quite tasty. I had some tonight for tea with cream. I did sprinkle a bit of sweetner over the top of them.

I did think of adding a few blueberries to the fruit but there was enough with what I’d already prepared.

What I do like is the way cream fills in the little pores of the strawberries, it makes a nice pattern and could be cropped and put together as a collage. I might do that. Red is a favourite colour and this with the contrast of black and white makes a fresh looking image.

Odd look?

I washed my hair earlier. My towel is a bit stiff because I don’t use softener in the machine, so when I wrapped it round my head it stuck out! I laughed when I saw myself in the mirror. I took a photo but I was in silhouette so I tried to lighten it and reduce the contrast. Then I put the picture through my photodirector app which can add texture…. This is the result.

Walsall memory

I just saw this image on FB and I suddenly realised I recognised it (I think), so I wrote this about it as people were saying it was in Stoke on Trent I disagree and think it’s a place called Chasewater :

I’m from Walsall originally and I think at the bottom of the hill was a crossroads called 5 ways? There was a cycle shop half way along as you went from the Walsall end towards Cannock. (over the chase, towards the Katym memorial) We called in there in the 80s and bought a five speed sturmey archer gear which eventually was sold to a cycle collective in York…. Memories..

Apparently taken in 1966, not sure who the photographer was.

Just bark

Geometric shapes and peeling bark. This morning I went back to my Wednesday art group. I’ve really missed it. Something prompted me burst into song so I ended up singing a verse of “Summertime” which I think is from the opera “Porgy and Bess”,

On the way out I saw this tree with the angles and muted colours in the background. I do wonder what tree it is, it looks like a birch, but too white to be a silver birch plus the bark is peeling off it?
