And still it goes on.

On 24th of February this year Vladimir Putin said he didn’t want to annex parts of Ukraine 🇺🇦, and yet now he’s trying to set up referendums to get the areas he’s taken over to vote to be absorbed into Russia. He can then threaten Ukraine more if they try and take those areas back.

Meanwhile victims of Russias torture and killing are being found in the areas in the North East of Ukraine that have been liberated. Innocent civilians that had their hands bound behind their back and were shot in the head. Or the survivors that were beaten or electrocuted. The loss that they and their relatives must feel must far outweigh any normal grieving? The world is awful. May this terrible war end soon.

The Queue for the Queen

The Queen is lying in state in Westminster Hall with Guards at each corner of the dias where her coffin sits draped in the Royal standard. She has been there since Thursday and the public are filing past in solemn mourning. A queue up to five miles long as been moving slowly through London while people wait to view the Monarch. The start of the queue was suspended for a while as there were too many people joining it. At one stage they were saying it would take twenty two hours to reach Westminster Hall. It is continuing to move night and day, and will run until the last people are allowed to view the lying in state at six thirty am on Monday 19th September. After that the queue will be closed and will have to disperse because the State Funeral will take place. Such a sad and solemn occasion.

Jack Frost?

When I’m not painting or sketching, I’m doodling.

Meet Jack Frost, or the Thorn Fairy depending on the time of year? I don’t know where the idea came from. But nights are getting a bit longer and colder and today seemed really cold in our house. It was so chilly I put a jumper on! Then this evening I looked up at our bedroom window. The top pane was wide open, no wonder it was cold! Hubby admitted it had been open since this morning. We agreed heating the outside atmosphere with our central heating system is not a good idea!

So now Jack Frost is a Thorn Fairy. A useful creature to keep people out of our garden, perhaps!

What to talk about?

Tiles in sunlight. Yesterday we visited Middleport pottery and went into the shop. These tiles were hanging on the wall, the sunlight shining on them. I liked the abstract look of this. I could have taken pictures of all the plates and patterns in there, but I took this instead. Whoever put this display up could have just put the tiles up in square blocks, but instead it’s been done in an asymmetric pattern.

Wasted journey

Sometimes you can tell things are going to go wrong. A ten minute journey turns into an hour long trek, at a snails pace. Sitting in a line of traffic to the main duel carriageway I took a left turn to take ous down a side road. That was OK so we proceeded to some traffic lights and turned there. Mistake, at the end of that road is act junction. Everyone was turning right, back down to the duel carriageway. I was turning left. I finally managed to edge out of the junction. Then stuck at more traffic lights, stuck coming down the road to a major roundabout. Queue on the roundabout, queue on the main road into the town we were going to. It became apparent that everyone was trying to get to the local football match.

So, I missed the person I was going to meet. I could not communicate with them as my messenger app is not working. I don’t have their phone number. So all we could do was trek back home. It was slightly better going the other way, but I’m irritated and frustrated. And I hate traffic.
