Usk challenge, day 25, ‘dizzy’…

IMG_20200513_172513_372

Dizzy? How do you draw that? I spun round in the bathroom and then decided to do a panoramic drawing. Only one object missing (lol).

I was trying to think about how to depict dizzy, I almost tried to add a bit of blurring, like motion blur. But that wouldn’t be true to life. I could also have drawn our dizzying array of books. But I think people already know about that. So to the tune of ‘you spin me, baby, right round’, I will pinwheel into the distance, byeeee!

Drawing challenge day 24.

_20200512_193312

Yesterday’s challenge was draw a sofa, so I did, with my two owl bags staring back at me! Also the brown throw, two green, crocheted blankets, a stripy cushion, a cat cushion with polka dots, another multi coloured throw, all trying to hide a very old, scruffy sofa. The one where the cats clawed a hole in the back. The one where I fixed it, by painting the pattern on some old canvas, and then stapling it in place. The one where subsequent cats have shredded the back corner again.

The sofa should be recognised as a historical monument.

Today’s challenge will probably be equally odd.

Turned the whirlpool into a seashell.

_20200512_140659

I tried to change the whirlpool into a seashell… Then I added gold glitter kiss paint. It looks like sand. I put it through the photo director app , there is a way of creating bits flying off the picture. In the animation it looks like the seashell is under water, the bits coming off look like they are floating. Totally random  result. I wish I could share it here, but it’s on my Instagram account. X

Life drawing live

Just been drawing at the BBC life drawing live TV programme. A series of short poses of models, all done under social distancing rules. 15893172736382071260241553628239

It was quite stressful. Trying to see the model on the TV when you only have a small screen. I needed a closer view. But overall I enjoyed it.

Various things used to draw, ink pen, charcoal pencil, a metallic pencil and 5b pencil.

Another abstract. Just silver glitter glue swirled around, then permanent markers using blues, greens and purple to create a spiralling pattern. Why? I don’t know. Spirals have always appealed to me. Spiral galaxies, spirals in ammonites, spiral cloud formations, spirals in the seed heads of sun flowers.

Of all the shapes I see in the world, these are my favourites.

I put this through photodirector and the subsequent animated clip is on my Instagram account.

Growth, today’s challenge.

My orchid plant is growing fast. Ariel roots are growing out of the pot.

The flowers have been there for a few weeks now. I don’t know what species it is, just that it’s quite pink!

Stoke Urban Sketchers challenge, day 23. Black ink pen and permanent marker pens.

Portrait artist competition

The Sky portrait artist of the year competition is on. Its not something I would do, but I did a quick forty minute sketch of the sitter, Rankin, to see how I could do. Working with a 0.5 unipin ink pen. Not too bad a likeness. I think I’ve got his nose too long and his eyes are a bit small…. But it’s good to practice.

Using a new app.

The original sketch, with a bit of colour added, I did cat like eyes, added some gold glitter.

Then I used an app a friend recommended called photo director.

I was able to clone a section of the drawing and add a layer of old paint. I think I’m going to like using the app. It’s a bit hit and miss at the moment, but I’m learning all the time…

Love, today’s challenge, day 22.

_20200510_111013

He loves his tractors, I love him, I’m not sure I love his hair.

I just realised how long my hubby’s hair is getting. If I cut it will he be like Sampson and lose his strength? Should I put it in a pony tail? He does have the look of a mad professor!

Anyway I did this one early, I’m usually a lot later doing a sketch for our Stoke Urban Sketchers challenge, but the prompt was love. My hubby was a good model, and including the tractor calendar just worked. If you look the little drawing above the bowl on the wall is meant to be me sketching. My friend did a caracature of me and its on the wall there. X

Today’s challenge was ‘busy’

Today’s drawing session, these are for my Urban Sketchers Stoke-on-Trent daily challenge. I thought I would share them, I was planting up pots and trying to tidy up, plus attacking the ivy that’s taken over the garden. Finally had a beer with my hubby and then came round onto the back yard to listen to the blackbird singing on the chimney tops. That was wonderful. So melodious
