Abstract horse sketch

Playing with my sketching app again. This time I found my drawing stylus so I had more control over the lines in it. Although you can see by my writing that it’s not much more under control!

The pens in the app are very varied, here I used a solid flowing line, a texture and a watercolour effect. This could represent a chess piece, the knight. I like the way it’s turned out.

Heads up

I’m imagining the back of a playing card with a pattern on it like this? Two profiles facing each other, one turned upside down. It’s based on the idea of the two heads on the King, Queen and Jack cards. Are they designed to read from both top and bottom to make it easier for all players to read them?

I am not a graphic designer so I am not sure what criteria I would need to actually make these, but I’m having fun as I experiment again.. Hope you enjoy my scribbles x

Background

I’m playing with oil colours in Artrage. I wanted to create a geological, rocky sort of image, like a slab of slate. Then I decided to split it into a collage, like five pieces of cake. It was interesting to create an abstract pattern, and I love the blues and reds as they smudged together. If I had oil paints I would try and recreate this as a real painting. I don’t know how I would do it though.

Roses

Finger painted in the new app and then collaged. Is anyone getting bored by these digital drawings? I am not going to keep posting these. I will try and do something else unless I can create something a bit better. There are lots of pens and tools on this app and it is interesting, but it’s going to take a while to get used to it….

Easter flowers

Flowers with chocolate eggs…

Can’t stop playing with my phone apps. I don’t know where I get all my ideas from. I hope you enjoy them. I like using multiple apps to get different results. Then you can use various filters. I really like the freedom of finger or stylus painting. I have only ever “built” an image with CAD when I did a course in computer aided design several years ago. Yes I could build boxes into a house, or circles and elipses into a face, but it’s not the same as the freedom of drawing. Yes I’ve used flower templates here, but I had to change and add to it. I get bored otherwise!

Cat drawing

Cat on a windowsill

Digital drawing using Artrage. I’ve found the tools to change the background so I used the canvas option. You can also chose a background colour. It looks as if I’ve drawn on canvas board but it’s totally digital. A bit rough round the edges but I like the way the cats eyes have turned out. Off to play some more….

Yo-yo’s

Twirling, whirling, swirling.

Artrage app using metallic digital pens and flood fill, then saving the image and adding extra lines to it, then flipping one side so it’s not quite symmetrical. The red and greens are complimentary colours so they stand out against each other where they haven’t blended together.

Planning

Now’s the time to order our hanging baskets for the year. The lady that puts them together asks me what colours I would like. Usually I don’t specify what theme I want but I’m definitely going for a rainbow theme this year. I think because there are so many different flowers and shapes and colours that would really brighten the yard. Last year was mainly red white and green so I bought in other flowers to broaden the spectrum.

Going out of the back door and seeing all this colour lifts my spirits. I usually order them and then collect them 6 to 8 weeks later. It’s a bit expensive but I have never been able to grow baskets as beautiful as hers. The summer arrives and I bring the baskets home. Then we have a riot of colour until late Autumn.
