I should be typing

Illustration?

I started with all good intentions this morning and wrote about 500 words of a 4000 word project I’ve got to do for my illustration course. But then things got in the way. We had an avalanche of carrier bags (my hubby buys them all the time). I put them by the washing machine but today they all slid down onto the floor. Cue a lot of folding and an offer to take them to the local food bank.

Then the cat decided she wanted a cuddle, she jumped up on the keyboard and knocked me out of the page I was on.

Hubby wanted to chat… Shuddup! Then Microsoft decided it wanted me to verify who I was before it would let me back into Word? What, how do you do that. I was halfway through a paragraph, had gone to have something to eat and came back to that!

Ugh!

Zine

Today my copy of Falmouth Zine arrived. Its the work of myself and fellow students, we all made self portraits using cut up pieces of monoprint. Then it was Riso printed and we now have the result.

Yes my self portrait looks nothing like me, but it was fun and experimental, and I learnt about making my own monoprint and how a Riso printer works, so yes it was worth having a go!

Mark making.

Not a good photo, but this was me drawing different marks as part of a mark making workshop.

It was supposed to be in pencil but all I had was a blue pencil crayon. I also tried rubbing over the top of an embossed tin. You had to come up with as many different marks as you coukd in a five minute period. It gets your mind working… Good for creativity.

Today’s portrait session 9.4.21

Today we were playing with lighting effects, either with the light from a lamp, a phone or the screen light. I decided to try and use watercolour (mainly blue and brown) and a couple of extra colours depending on the backgrounds. The paint set doesn’t have a black, which makes it interesting trying to get dark enough colours…

Self portrait

Collage, sponged black acrylic and ink. Then watercolour on top.

We were due to have a portrait drawing session yesterday but the server wasn’t working. So I decided to have an experiment and throw some ideas I’ve been playing with at the subject. The background wasn’t that important, it was more about texture and frustration than anything else. I missed meeting up with my college friends…..

Idea for a map?

Blurry old photo based on celtic art. I’m trying to decide what patterns and textures I can use to create a map for college. I’m thinking of using photoshop to turn something like this into a maze / map?

Next step will be to upload it and try and change the colours and sharpness. Also to work out a route and decide if there will be celtic or saxon patterns. Will there be a treasure trove of coins or ornamental armour?

I am a lightweight!

After days of walking decent distances the last two have been a bit of a disappointment. Yesterday I walked uphill though, and got my heart points in. Today it was only because I had to deliver the car to the garage for repairs and walk home via a cafe for a takeaway breakfast, go and help a friend with an online form because she was struggling with filling it in, and this evening going shopping in the local supermarket to collect essentials like milk and bread. During the day I also took part in a lecture that overran somewhat and was busy trying to catch up with household tasks. I have got to do a couple of observational drawings to catch up my weekly quota. I will try and post the results of them later. Still got to wash the shopping (yes I do that) and consider working on an editorial illustration that we have to create for college thus week. But now I’m sitting down with the cat on my lap. Might have a quick nap!

Portrait group tonight…

Tonight we had to sketch each other in hats. I decided to use post it notes as a background, with graphite stick and black ink calligraphy pen. My mistake was not to glue the squares down, so as these were five minute sketches I had to glue before I coukd draw! One if them I deliberately didn’t stick down so I could move the pieces around after I’d finished drawing….

Embroidery and illustration

Just been to an embroidery workshop online. I had a go at backstitch, running back stitch, chain stitch and French knots. I was trying out the whipped back stich. The paper was too thin so I glued on some post it notes and used a black line so the thread stands out better.. Messy but fun.. The cotton got tangled up so I decided to leave it till tomorrow.
