Curled up cat

IMG_20191027_003621_785

He’s curled up,

Happy, warm, snug.

The stray cat outside has a box

Sleeps in the shed.

My cat sleeps where he likes.

So sad.

The stray needs a home,

A place to be warm.

My cat won’t accept him.

Looked for its owner..

Gone away.

Now it needs shelter,

While my cat is happy.

It’s time for the stray,

To get a warm bed…..

My dilemma is how to do it?

Chilly

And a bit damp. It’s 19.1°C in our living room and I’m contemplating putting a jumper on. I think my cat is chilly, he’s just come and sat on me and his sister wants a cuddle too. She sticks her claws in my leg and stretches up, but when I call her up she walks away. There are forecasts for rain tonight, thunder storms in the south east. If you want to look at where thunderstorms are look up blitzortung on Google. It’s a weather site that shows live tracking of thunderstorms.

Anyway that’s it from a cold and wet North Staffordshire…. X

More later.. Been a bit busy today….

Just had a real fright!

When you are sitting in your home watching TV at 2.30 in the morning you don’t expect someone to knock on your kitchen window. But that just happened. I shouted up to my husband who had just gone to bed. He came down and went to the back door–and let a young man in!… He said he was being chased by some other men. What could we do? I went to the front door and shouted that I was ringing the police-which is what I did. They dispatched a patrol who arrived after about twenty minutes. In the meantime my husband decided to go outside and have a look round! I was standing next to the young man, in my living room on my own! Luckily I was speaking to the police and trying to keep the man calm. I could feel my chest getting tight, I was quite shocked. At one stage the police dispatcher asked if I needed an ambulance! Anyway the police came and took him away to safety. They checked no-one was in the garden. I’m still shaking. Writing this to calm down and get it off my chest. It’s a case of what could have happened but luckily didn’t !

Why is snot green?

I’m feeling quite unwell, sneezing and coughing, so I had a chat with my hubby who studied science.

If you don’t want to read more please leave the room..

The answer is it doesn’t have to be. It depends on the bacteria causing it.

Sorry if you are eating.

It’s a complex muco polysaccharide according to my hubby, made up of sugars in very long chains. It acts like a dye. Being green or yellow or other colours. It depends on the bacteria causing it. Viruses are colourless so I guess if you have one and get coloured mucus you might have a secondary infection?

So anyway on that note I will get some honey and lemon.

Autumn equinox

Untitled60_001

When the sun sets tonight in the Northern Hemisphere night will last slightly longer than day. In the Southern Hemisphere day will now last longer than night. In six months time the tables will be turned as North heads back to spring and South to autumn.

Mists and mellow fruitfulness is the phrase from a poem I always think of. Finding mushrooms in the garden, seeing Robins looking for food, seeing the leaves change. Already there are tinges of red and yellow on the bigger trees, I think because, being higher up, their leaves feel the chill first. Driving up the local hill you see more changes. Presumably the trees on the lower slopes are more protected. Perhaps its a micro climate?

In a few months it will be winter. I’m hoping things don’t get too cold. But maybe I should hope for cold to cool the climate?

Happy Autumn Equinox.

Rain

Untitled56_001

The rain comes down harder and faster these days. When I was a child I remember gentle rain, now it seems to soak in seconds. Water has a way of getting into everything when it falls. Like a cold shower it wakes you up, startling you as it splashes in your face. It was once said that there is no bad weather, just being inappropriately dressed for it. Nowadays I’m not so sure.

Cold as ice.

Her face seemed chiselled and angular, it was pale and smooth. The one blemish was a  small mole just below the left side of her mouth. Icy, that’s what he thought, like an ice sculpture. Her manner was friendly though, a slight smile played around her mouth as they chatted. He was attracted to her and decided to ask her to go for a drink.

At the bar he asked her what she wanted? Vodka and tonic was her reply, no ice.

They sat and drank and chatted, he felt closer to her than anyone else he’d ever met. He held her hand and she smiled that quiet smile again.

Look I’ll give you a lift home he said. No problem, it’s on my way. She readily agreed.

As they pulled up outside her house he leaned towards her, a little peck on her cheek, it felt cold under his lips. He looked into her tranquil blue eyes. She took his face in her hands, directing her mouth towards him, pulling his face down, inwards. He felt the cold now, sharp, icy, his mouth was numb. The chill spread across his face, his head. Despite the heat he was freezing, shivering. The kiss continued until his eyes glazed over and he slumped forward.

Sorry hun, she said.

Caught his cold.

Don’t read if you want to be cheered up! He’s been coughing and spluttering for a week now. He never takes medicine for colds and usually throws things off in a couple of days. He’s had flu twice in his life. He won’t rest and recover. He’s hardly eating. So I’ve tried to help, got him some cough medicine, but he won’t take it. I’m fed up with him because he doesn’t seem to realise he’s spreading germs, a virus or whatever it is.

Now I ache and have started coughing. So I’m trying to stay healthy while I run round after him. In the meantime he can’t stop. His anxieties for e him to keep doing things, keep checking things, so yeah, I’m a bit fed up and grumpy. Sorry to vent!

What a long day

IMG_20190209_212310_optimized

I’ve felt better.

I got up early this morning because we were due to drive up to Yorkshire to visit a friend. But I felt lousy. My hubby has had a bad cough and sore throat. Well now I’ve got it too.

No chance of driving all that way, we were going to visit Fountains Abbey, but I guess I will have to wait until I’m better and we can book to go again.

Life is topsy turvey. Everything is mixed up now. I had planned to do things but it feels like I am being held back. Ah well that’s life.

Goodnight x
