Wear a mask

Oh dear! I went round the supermarket today and about a third of the customers were not wearing masks. One woman in particular looked really ill, sneezing and coughing. She was struggling to get what she wanted. When we got to the till she was ahead of me, she looked flushed and hot. I stood well back even though that meant the person behind me was getting close. I tried to keep away from them too.

I won’t go back to that supermarket for a couple of days. I hope the woman is OK. I hope I don’t catch her illness. Meanwhile I’m keeping my mask on!

Mystery singing

Singing in a bandstand is good because the roof helps the acoustics. Our group, called the Mystery Singers were out in the cold fog singing carols mainly to the empty park, although we did have a small audience. One group that totally ignored us was the local anti-vax group (or maybe the bah-humbug group). Very strange. They didn’t look happy.

At one stage the sun did come out and the temperature rose a few degrees but after a couple of songs the fog rolled back in again. I think people enjoyed our singing, we got some nice comments and applause. Now I’m warming up, it was freezing out there !

Pink sunset

We walked round the lake and saw the sky turning pink. The glow spread across the surface of the lake but didn’t develop further. Ten minutes later as we drove home, the sun peeped out from undet the clouds. I couldn’t stop but saw the sky turning dark grey in front of me and the sun reflected in my rear view mirror. I hoped to drive towards a rainbow but as the rain started to fall the sun hid itself behind the clouds again. Went howm to a hot decaff coffee and a mince pie!

Sunset, twisted..

Take a look at me sideways on. I am a sunset with trees and a roof.

Twisted 90° and mirrored. I just caught the glow of the sunset as it fell behind the south west horizon. Another shortening day. In about three weeks we will get even shorter. Midwinter gloom will arrive and then the long climb back to light again. I will have to hibernate!

Chilly

It’s a cool night here. – 1.7°C outside and 17.2°C inside. It doesn’t help when the cats come through the door between the kitchen and the back door, they invariably leave it slightly ajar but I can’t shut it or they would be stuck behind it or in the bathroom. We have a bathroom radiator but it only just keeps the chill out and although I ‘fixed ‘ the cat flap the big cat can sometimes detach it because of his fat belly!

I’ve had the central heating on full time for the last couple of days, together with an oil filled radiator. But when it gets milder I will put it back to timed and use it less. This is because I’m worried about how much the cost of gas has gone up and also because of our carbon footprint. I actually do care. I would rather sit in a coat and dressing gown but my hubby feels the cold more. He has the oil radiator next to him. Life…. Always something…

Snowing

A few shots of the snow outside in the garden. The snow is only a couple of centimetres deep but is continuing to fall. I don’t think this weather will last long, but it does seem strange that it’s falling in November. Most years we don’t get anything even at Christmas. It sometimes snows in the new year and can last a couple of weeks but generally it’s been mild for most winters. What does worry me is the cost of heating our house. Gas and electricity bills are skyrocketing. Ah well, that’s life.

Storm Arwen

Not here… In Scotland

When you see a bad weather report like this you think it might effect your home. In this case its to the north of us up in Scotland and The North East of England. Still the wind is roaring past the house and rattling our wheelie bins. But that’s about it. We don’t appear to be getting flooding at the moment, but there may be on the North Sea coast.

We did have our power supply flickering a few times. But up north thousands of peoples homes have lost power. Trains are stranded. Its all relative I guess.

Didn’t walk!

Not just that. I woke up with incredible stomach pains and let’s just say I’ve lost a lot of weight today!

It feels like every day is three steps back at the moment. Just as I make plans, things go wrong. Could it be the mirror my hubby broke last week? As Halloween approaches has he cursed us with seven years bad luck?

This is the first time today I’ve felt able to blog. I’m hoping this will only be a twenty four hour bug. Time will tell as the cliche says…
