Memory of my favourite cat.

I painted this several years ago. She was my favorite cat. Always sitting behind the weeping fig at the top of the stairs. I painted her a couple of years before she passed away. I know it’s a long time ago because the fig grew to be about six foot high when we finally got rid of it. It’s one of very few paintings I had framed, because it was for myself. I generally don’t put them on as people can then choose what they want.

She was a lovely friendly cat, and very clever. Much loved.

Mostly black and white

Of course you can have a black and white cat, but have pops if colour around it, as in this photo. The main colours here are blue and orange which are contrasting colours on opposite sides of the colour wheel. It’s not perfect, but I think it’s quite pleasing. Shadows fall below and to the right of the  cat caused by the bright but diffused bathroom light.

This is Woody, the abandoned cat.

This is Woody, that’s what we’ve christened him. He’s been hanging round our garden for a year, eating food, and he’s gradually settled in our summerhouse. But it’s not ideal. I’d invite him in but my two rescue cats are timid, and I never got them their booster inoculations because they won’t get in the cat carriers. Anyway they are indoor cats so as long as Woody doesn’t come in they are safe.

But (and you knew this was coming, didn’t you?) I feel sorry for Woody and so I got someone to come round and check if he’s microchipped. Turns out he is but the phone number is dead and although we have been told he’s from a few streets away, they won’t tell us where because of Data protection.

No one has put missing posters up so I guess he is abandoned.

He’s a lovely friendly cat but after a year of being semi feral it’s going to be hard to get him rehomed. He doesn’t like being inside (we tried to get him in out of the rain), but I’d love him to be loved and snuggled down somewhere. Maybe on his own with a big garden to roam around, but also more cuddles than we can give.

If you live in Staffordshire maybe get in touch?

I’m the king of the castle..

sketch-1573732727679

My cats play and chase each other every few hours. It starts with the female cat lying down in front of the male cat, he starts to groom her and they start squabbling, she fends him off as he tries to nip her. They then start chasing each other, sneaking up and Pouncing at each other, racing round the room and up the stairs.

Lately it been a game of “I’m the king of the castle, get down you dirty rascal…” a game that children used to play where you would stand on top of a pile of dirt or maybe rocks and your friends would try and push you off and capture the high ground.

I’ve got a pile of clothes and laundry waiting to go upstairs, but the male cat has taken to sleeping on it. His sister objects and jumps up. A few times she has chased him away, only for him to come back and recapture it! I was going to take a photo of him, but he jumped down so I’ve drawn a cat on it. It does remind me of the game we used to play.

Woody the cat

I’m still worried about Woody, the cat that has taken up residence in our garden summerhouse. We’ve now contacted the Cats protection league and they are going to put him on their page for a couple of weeks. As I explained we tried bringing him in but it upset the other cats, plus they won’t let me take them to the vets so they have not been fully inoculated. They don’t go out, and he can’t come in.

Anyway I sent them photos of him and wrote:

Here is a photo of Woody. He’s very friendly and quite big. He’s always mooching round our garden and now the weather’s getting colder he sleeps in a cat tree base in our summerhouse. We think he might have been abandoned. Regards

A cat can curl up here,

Sit on my knee.

Or on the pile of washing,

Curled up and snug.

Dreaming of flying birds.

Thinking of whizzing leaves,

Warm and toasty,

Curled up and snug.

Winter shivers the bones,

Rain drips down necks,

Sun sets early,

Curled up and snug.

Food to eat and water to drink,

Warm and draft free

Thinking of sitting in a tree.

Curled up and snug…..
