My cat watching TV

sketch-1582481088069

My cat likes watching animals on TV. I was watching a nature programme with spy cameras, they were built to look like animals so that they could film various creatures. There was a spy owl that was flying over a pack of wolves and my cat started watching it. She continued to watch till the end of the programme….

She is the only one of about eight cats that we have had over the years that has shown any interest in TV.

She just stares, sometimes if there is a chase she quickly glances at the animal doing the chasing, but to be honest the pictures are edited together so fast that it must not be coherent to a cat who can’t follow the narration! Anyway she’s gone again now. People on TV!

Cat plate present

DSC_2416

I’ve been given a couple of these cat plates by a friend recently. I really like them. They remind me of Victorian illustration, but the sepia toned cats are on a nice blue background. The back stamp says PrintRun.co and made in China. Microwave and dishwasher proof. That doesn’t give you much information. I could investigate further, but I don’t think I will.

There is a thing which people who live in Stoke-on-Trent do, which is to look at the backstamp on pottery and see where it was made.

So anyway sorry to be quiet, busy trying to learn lines!

Above our door

I designed this about 25 years ago. A cat resting in the window above our front door. My friend Phil Shaw who was a carpenter also knew how to make stained glass, so I drew out the pattern and he made this up for me. It’s been there ever since and I love it. When we had our house double glazed I wanted to have this incorporated into a window but they couldn’t do it, so it remains, behind the single glass window. Letting the sunlight in. Coloured patches on the carpet.

He’s still here..

The abandoned cat that we have been looking after is still here. There was a couple who almost took him, but decided we were too attached to him for them to take him. He still lives in the shed because we have two indoor cats who won’t get in their cat basket to be inoculated! Hence cats staring at each other through the cat flap. The outdoor cat has a box surrounded by straw to help keep him snug. But we decided to put a small electric oil heater in the shed to help keep him warm on very cold nights. He can get in and out, and because there is nothing of value in the shed we are happy to leave the door slightly ajar. Hopefully by later this year he will be rehomed x

This radiator is mine!

DSC_2403

We have a cat tower and one of the trays on it is directly over a radiator. We have two cats but only one of them uses this tray. Slightly squashed she still loves it. The heat from the radiator must almost be cooking her! But she’s comfy, she likes staring out if the window, watching out for our outside cat when he stands by the backdoor.

I wish he could come in and get hot too. We’ve put in a heater in the shed so he can keep warm. That’s a long story…..

Cats are charming but cheeky, this one sticks her claws in me when she wants to wake me up on the morning. She sticks her paw under the cover and prods me with her paws until I wake up!

Painting mugs

At Etruria Artists today we painted mugs, they were blank white mugs and we used on glaze paints that stay the same colour when they are heated. The most exciting thing is that they can be heated in an ordinary domestic oven. They have to be dried for twenty four hours, then heated at 150°C or gas mark 2 for 35 minutes to bake the colours in.

The outside photo is lock 40 on the Trent and Mersey canal. It was a beautiful morning, bright and sunny. I really do prefer coming to Etruria Artists ‘hands on Art’ at the Warehouse next to the lock in the morning rather than the evening. It is on from 10am to 12 noon if anyone wants to come along.

Lost cats

FB_IMG_1580825938560

Two years ago this is what I wrote on Facebook :

“Missing two black and white cats, in our house, somewhere under or behind the furniture….hopefully they will emerge when they get hungry. Hubby has been looking for them half the night. I keep telling him that will just scare them more…. I don’t know whether to get one of those plug in things that gives off a calming scent for cats?”

The photo is of the female who I hadn’t got to know as they had only been here for two days. At the time I didn’t know she was pregnant with four kittens (who we successfully rehomed). She is now very happy living here with her brother. They don’t hide, they like us now. I did get some of that stuff that calms cats down and it worked.
