New paintings and regular art updates.
I decided to do a simple drawing and painting of one of my cats looking out the window. Then I thought I would use the bubble wrap I’d added black paint to. I stuck it on so it acts as a flap. Now it looks like net curtains. The black splodges also give the bare branched tree a few leaves!
I used monoprint black splodges for this. They were collaged onto a page I’d printed dots from bubble wrap covered in black paint. I realised I could make out two goldfish in the patterns. So I used watercolours and black ink to complete the picture. Slightly reminds me of Japanese woodblock images.
Ten minute portrait studies with black paint splodges from bubble wrap. I used watercolour and black ink pens for the portraits. We did some minoprint a few weeks back but I found gluing down bits of paper then drawing over the top difficult so tried this instead. It also makes you consider where to paint the face!
We were using found items to add interest. My favourite is the pot of brushes obscuring the face of one of the sitters.

We were due to have a portrait drawing session yesterday but the server wasn’t working. So I decided to have an experiment and throw some ideas I’ve been playing with at the subject. The background wasn’t that important, it was more about texture and frustration than anything else. I missed meeting up with my college friends…..
Strange creatures. Playing with mono prints and post it notes, making abstract shapes and animals x, then using black marker pens.
Rather tired tonight after only getting a couple of hours sleep. Then I went for a walk! Shattered.
I have been enjoying some print workshops at college.
We were shown how to create a printing surface by gluing tin foil to a board.
Then you paint it with black acrylic paint or ink.
Use impliments / household objects to make marks on the surface (sponge, pegs, coins, nails, comb etc). Each time you make marks place a sheet of paper on top and rub over with a bunched up pair of socks (stops you ripping the damp paper)
When your prints have dried you can cut them up and collage them. We did self portraits.

What to do with bits if left over paper when you’ve taken out pages from your sketchbook? I cut out the page egdesby snipping where the paper has squares cuyt out for the ring binding. I took some orange post it notes then glued the offcuts on top so it looks like windows… Crumpled up some green post it notes for the grass and bushy bank the flats sit on. Then I used my ink roller (that is meant to blot out your address when you throw letters away) to roll over the background, leaving a vertical line for a lamppost. Finally I added an orange oblong of post it note for the street light. I added felt pen for trees and the lamppost and drew in the squares to add shadow to the windows…
Today’s #bandofsketchers prompt was Handle. I couldn’t think of anything ornate to draw so I just did the front door handle with my keys in it. Black calligraphy ink pen with metallic watercolour paints for the details and view through the front door window. My arm still shakes so as I hold my sketchpad it wobbles…..
Orchid plant, black ink drawing over green sprayed and blown ink. Based on the idea of Shibui found art by my friend Pejj Nunes. The idea is you create a background from paint by using random methods and then add detailed images on top of the base idea. I’m not sure if this is the correct way of doing it but I like it. …
Underneath our arch in the living room. Lots of mobiles hand off it, plus a disco ball and star that lights up. The Thursday #bandofsketchers prompt was underneath and this seemed appropriate. Lots of books to draw!
