Apollo 11
50 years on,
Watching the landing,
Seeing the moon
In another light.
I was young when it happened
I was allowed to stay up.
Marvelling at Man’s bravery
And ability
To fly to the moon.
Hold up my thumb
Moon has gone.
If they did the same
earth was gone too.
Infinity of space
We are miniscule.
Apollo as insect jumping to a new stone.
Taking a tiny step into the void.
Perhaps we will go further,
But life remains precious,
Our bubble got bigger
But remains tiny
In the shape of space.
I’ve upgraded my site
I can add buttons,
And get priority help,
I can monetise my site.
I can add adverts
But all I want is more memory
More photos, more pictures.
I hope it works and it’s worth it .

I’ve got lots of images to show you but I’ve run out of space on my plan. I have gradually deleted old photos from posts but my camera takes pictures in megabits not kilobits so it eats memory. I shall probably pay and upgrade because I use a lot of images in this blog. Anyway Middleport pottery is hidden in the backstreets of middleport in Stoke-on-Trent. It is interesting to visit as it not only makes pottery but also sells it and is home to several craft shops which make studio pottery, sell photos and other craft ware.
If you are not doing a tour of the museum entrance is free. We went in the cafe then sat by the canal for a while. There is a boat tour that called at the pottery and we may go on it soon.
There is also Clay college based there where you can learn the craft of throwing pots, and it is the setting for the TV show the great pottery throw down.
Worth a visit.

We had a couple of arguments earlier on today so we decide to go for a walk and feed the birds. It takes your mind off things when you are mobbed by geese and have your toes pecked by pigeons. I fed pigeons from my hand too but couldn’t take photos of them at the same time.
Came home feeling relaxed. Now having to put up with loud music from the local pub! Argh!
One of my favourite space films. Up there with the Sci-Fi classic 2001 a Space Odyssey.
In this case the film is based on the ill fated flight of Apollo 13. The crew of three were on the way to the moon when one of their oxygen tanks burst when it was stirred. They were left 3/4 of the way to the moon with a shortage of air to breathe. They had to work out how to navigate the space ship, work out how to clear the CO2 that was poisoning their air, work out how to use the equipment with almost no battery power and successfully splash down on the Earth. It was only on the way back that they saw the damage to their service module that they saw the damage and whether the heat shield that protected them from friction from the atmosphere would work.
I guess it’s on because of the 50th anniversary of landing on the moon. Very good film.
One thing I hear a lot of nowadays is, I can’t eat that it’s got chemicals in it.
I agree that some things are not good for you. But that’s not because of ‘chemicals’. Why? Because unless you try and live on sunshine (some people do, believe it or not ) everything is made of chemicals, that’s because it’s made of atoms and molecules that make up the basic building blocks of the world.
Atoms and molecules? Single chemicals are elements, and if you have more than one sort, joined together they make compounds.
Oxygen is an element, hydrogen and oxygen is water, H2O. The air we breathe is made of chemicals… Nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide, argon and other trace elements.
Food is made of chemicals, mixtures and aggregations of elements and compounds, from meat to yoghurt, lettuce to lemon merangue to coffee or tea. It’s only when things are added that food can become bad for you. Like if you treat vegetable oil (made if chemicals) to make it harder you get hydrogenated vegetable oil, which is bad for you as it can clog arteries.
We have to be aware of what is good and bad for you, but using a generic term about chemicals does not help clarify the issue.

I’ve got more at my studio so with these I have a lovely collection. They were all made at my friend Angela’s glass workshop at Spode.

I’m watching a programme, late at night, with Holst’s planet suite. But it’s also got Professor Brian Cox, a famous astronomer, who is explaining details about the planets. During each section there are beautiful images of each of the planets, now they are showing multi cratered Mercury. If you have never heard the Planet Suite I would recommend it. The music is sublime, lyrical, atmospheric, full of complexity and confident, in turns loud and soft, discord and soaring melodies wrap into and around each other. There are sections covering rising octaves, then dropping down to gentle breezes of notes.
Jupiter is the next planet, and he is explaining the atmosphere and the poles of the planet. Its exactly the sort of programme I love, art, creativity and science mingled together.
If you can find it on the BBC iplayer I would recommend watching it.
I’ve just started this poppy painting. It’s on a black canvas about 12″ square.
I’m hoping I will be able to build up a depth of colour and detail because of the dark canvas. It’s acrylic on canvas and is going to be big and bold. I need to work on the colours in the poppy but also in the greens of the foliage. I should finish it in the next few days. This is like a practice piece as I have another two black canvases to work on. Not sure what the subject will be.
I was sitting in the summerhouse this evening and I felt happy for the first time in ages.
