Swallow falls a year ago

I don’t remember when we actually visited Swallowfalls, it’s in Wales near Capel Curig. The water flows off the Snowdonia range. I think I drew this from an old photo. It’s one of my felt pen drawings that I do with #bandofsketchers. This was drawn in May 2022, when we were more restricted in where we could go and I was being so cautious I drew from references more than real life (I still limit where we go). I wish I was up to travelling over there. Wales is a wonderful, picturesque, friendly country. Visit if you can X

Sunset

Sunset was Sundays #bandofsketchers prompt. As we arrived at our holiday destination one summer I was amazed to see what appeared to be a tall beam of sunshine above the setting sun. I found out later that it was a sun pillar. I think its a phenomenon where sunlight reflects off ice crystals in the sky? A bit like sun dogs. Can’t find the photo to work off so tried to remember it…

Sketch set

Went for a meal out at Sawadee Thai taste in Stoke tonight. While we were there I decided to sketch us. I had to imagine my self portrait, and they are all a bit scruffy as I just drew on a bit of old card I had in my bag, each sketch took a couple of minutes. Apple is the Thai lady that runs the restaurant.

The food was delicious, we had red curry with sticky rice and some pad Thai noodles. Not expensive and good company.

Hearts

Well not really! When you load perfectly good apps on your phone you expect them to keep working, or at least that you can reload them if you change your device. Unfortunately this phone is too new to support Layout App. I still have it on my PC I think but I don’t really use it, so another learning curve. My head hurts… Now I will try and understand the new app, and try not to be annoyed by in app ads!

Egg?

Egg doodle using a newer version of Artrage that I’ve downloaded onto my new phone. Glad I’ve got this one, but other older apps I can no longer find. I will keep looking. It’s frustrating that the gallery images that I’d saved on those apps have disappeared, but you learn and transfer skills to other apps. This is meant to be an Easter egg. Can you tell? Lots more tools on this version, no opacity tool though so you can’t reduce the strength of the pen with a slider, and the old choice had a dry pen, and three other style of pens that I can’t remember now? But fun none the less.

Seclusion

Thursdays #bandofsketchers prompt was seclusion. I was secluded for about 20 hours when my phone battery started to overheat. I took it to the phone shop but it was closed, but I went back later and got a replacement. The pattern on this is meant to be a design for a phone case. Just taking something positive out of a difficult day x

always an artist

Daily writing prompt
When you were five, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I always drew for as long as I can remember and I knew I wanted to  be an artist. I stuck drawings up on my bedroom walls as I got older, i would copy pictures of Asterix the Gaul, or draw Elizabethan people with ruffs round their necks and wonderful clothing. When the walls got covered I strung string across my side of the bedroom and hung my drawings and paintings on with clothes pegs or sellotape. As I got better at art I was asked to do a painting for one of the deputy head teachers who was retiring. I remember painting portraits of some of my school mates as if they were in the school playground in clothes that would look very old fashioned now. Eventually one of my paintings got sent to a display of childrens art in our twin town in Germany. That was a big highlight of school life. Luckily I got to go to art college, and here I am, still doing art all these decades later!
