Murals remembered

Found an old photo of my mural of Walter a regular at the Leopard Hotel in Burslem, the other picture is my reimagined  portrait of Molly Leigh, based on the mural I did of her. Both murals were destroyed when the pub burnt down a couple of years ago. I might try and recreate the Walter one too. The final photo is of my Molly Leigh painting and my Spode circular window painting in the Orme Art Group Exhibition at the Brampton museum and art gallery in Newcastle under Lyme. It’s on at the moment.

Xrays

Xray of hand ap and at an angle.

A pet peeve. I watch quite a few programmes where people have to have xrays. I think the worst thing is when the xray is presented the wrong way up or back to front, or worse still when the image is of a different part of the body!

Sometimes I just laugh, but when it’s a life or death situation I wish the film makers would make a bit more of an effort!

Why do I know this? I did a course years ago. Being an artist helped me identify things that no one else noticed. I could see things like buttons in a stomach or a comb in a pocket…. And other more “unusual” images, ahem…

Walter, found

Recently found on my phone, photo taken a few years ago.

One of my murals from the Leopard Hotel in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, it burnt down a couple of years ago. Portrait of Walter a regular there.. Mural, emulsion on lining paper. I had to paint it a few feet up the wall, the paintings were painted within a frame attached directly to the wall. I just noticed his hands are too small!

Someone asked me?

Old painting x

How to start a painting working from a blank canvas. I suggested they could start by changing the colour of the canvas. That will give you feel for how the paint goes on. Think about whether you want the canvas upright (portrait) lf on its side (landscape). You could do a gradient of colour or greys so it’s lighter towards the top or one side. Try and think of a simple subject to start. How are your drawing skills and do you want realism or an abstract subject. Most of all – enjoy!

Watching TV, eating salad, sneezing!

What are you doing this evening?

I’m already on antibiotics…

I’m trying to eat healthily, but I had my tea before I saw this prompt, so this is a free photo.

The antibiotics are for an infection in my leg. I didn’t expect to feel rough on them. But now I think I’ve been coming down with a cold (a viral infection) and the antibiotics won’t help with it.

So feeling tired and achy so I have been watching TV this evening instead of going to a meeting I was due at. I didn’t sleep well last night so I’ve been napping a few times over the day. The only trouble is that the sneezing woke me up twice! Atishoo! We all fall down!

Stuff

Blurry photos of a disco glitter ball, mobile of planets, dusty dream catcher, glass hangings… Not necessarily in that order…

I have collected lots of “stuff” over the years. Most of these are hung to high to reach now for me, so they are dust collectors.

Not having hubby around means I can’t get  things down from high places. Goodness knows what I can do. But at least this shows my eclectic tastes. I’m interested in a lot of things.

If I showed you the rest of my house you’d probably be horrified. But that’s the life of a crazy artist.

Passion flower

At a local garden centre I saw this lovely passion flower. Mine has died off so I will have to plant a new one.

My Parkinsons is playing up this weekend and I haven’t been out. All my limbs are shaking and aching and I’m having to hang on to my phone hard to stop it jiggling all over the place.

I would like to go out and do some gardening, but there have been loads of heavy showers and I don’t feel stable enough on my feet. Tomorrow a lot of things need doing and I hope I feel a bit better by then.

I try yoga breathing

How do you relax?

I can’t do this pose!

I’ve been shown how to do box breathing. You sit upright and close your eyes. Breath deeply into your belly…

Basically breathe in for a count of four

Hold your breath for four

Breathe out for four.

Hold your breath for four.

There are other more complex methods of yogic breathing, including alternative nostril breathing. But this technique is easy to follow.

You can carry on doing box breathing till you feel relaxed.

Long day

My upstairs stairs window.

My life had been quiet during the last few weeks. Long boring days, my ivy has been growing and I can trace it’s growth in my memory, almost like watching paint dry. I need to get someone in to help.

My brain was frazzled by the heat and now it’s getting cold I’m more interested in keeping warm and cozy. The cats keep me company, either on my lap or on the bed. The last three days have been worse, the skin on my legs is sore and I’m starting a course of antibiotics tomorrow. I think I have a temperature. I’ve been too stationary with not being able to drive so I think I need bucking up a bit. I’ll try and do a bit of walking tomorrow. Fingers crossed I’ll feel more myself soon. X
