Two boys

On the settee… Indoor and outdoor cats are tolerating each other. These are the two boys, the girl cat sleeps upstairs. There is a bit of trouble over sleeping spots. They seem to like a spot and take it, then the other one comes along and snuggles there instead.

One thing I am trying is stroking their cheeks. Apparently the spray you can buy with pheromones to calm cats down is based on the scent they give off from the scent glands in their cheeks. So I guessed if you stroke one cats cheek, then stroke the other one it might help. It’s certainly helped them get used to each other..

Hmm. Almost bedtime, will I have to get u to let outdoor boy out later? We will see….

Under the cats eye

Scrutiny, he watches, he’s the outdoor boy. Making sure you love him, have treats ready. A tickle behind his ears, under his chin, cheek rubbed. His cut nose is healing, not caused by our cats…

Then a look, aloof, I’ve had enough, I’m going out. He stands, stretches, front paws first, then back legs, doing the ‘downward cat’. Yowl, let me out. Gently closing his eyes looking up at me. I am under his spell. I’m OK while he’s out but as soon as he comes back. I’m gone. Xx

His belly!

The outdoor cat trusts me enough to show me his belly and he let me stroke it. Cats are very nervous of doing this, so they really are careful about rolling over and showing their tummies. I feel very honoured that he’s let me do that.

He’s back in this evening out of the cold. The other cats are continuing to tolerate him. I think soon he will be a (mostly) indoor cat too!

Sleeping like a baby

He’s coming in at night more and more, he’s finding comfort and warmth. My cats are being tolerant (probably because they were rescue cats where there were twenty cats in the house). They sniff each other and then find somewhere to rest. This cat stays in longer ever night, we are his safe space. After an hour or two he goes to the back door and yowls, asks to be released. One day he might stay the whole night, but I understand he wants his freedom. In the meantime I’m getting him flea and worming treatments so he doesn’t pass anything on to my two. I’m glad he’s befriended us. X

Cat to vet

My boy cat has another bald spot. Turns out it may be an allergy. I took his buster collar off a week ago because his skin had got better. But over the last couple if days he’s been washing and licking more. It’s probably because the abandoned cat that comes in for an hour at night might have bought some ‘little friends’ in with him… I’m going to get our boy some more treatment and another spray. It’s worrying, because we have too much stuff in the house with all my art supplies and things. Maybe I haven’t done a good enough spray? None of my other cats have had problems in the past so all this is new to me. I’m hoping it can be sorted out soon…..

Fog, what Fog?

It was meant to be foggy this morning. I was looking forward to going out to take photos in the mist… But it didn’t arrive! Instead I took an ‘atmospheric’ photo of the cat on the windowledge. There’s a teatowel on the wooden chest that I use when I’m painting.

I’ve seen lots of misty photos over the last few days, so I hope I’ll be able to get some interesting images… We shall see.

Cat toys

Today’s #bandofsketchers prompt was games or toys. I have a scrabble game somewhere but haven’t seen it for years. I don’t have any toys, but the cats have plenty….

A lot of them are filled with catnip which drives the cats mad with pleasure. It tends to fade over time, hence the number of toys! Drawn in spectrum noir metallic pencil colours in a little sketch book with a bit of black felt pen to define the edges.
