Tea at the Rabbit Hole Tearoom.

A good memory from a few years ago. Having tea with friends at the Rabbit Hole Tearoom in Stoke, Stoke-on-Trent.

We had been looking for somewhere different to visit and we had a friend coming down from Yorkshire. I had to book in advance but it was worth it. My memory is of a themed Tearoom around the Alice in Wonderland stories, with the white rabbit, mad hatter, dormouse and Queen of Hearts. The tea was lovely, cakes, scones, sandwiches, fruit. A pot of tea each.

It was a family themed Tearoom and it was very full. No social distancing in those pre covid days. I wish I could go back in time. Remembering those days is getting harder. But seeing old photos like this help to reassure me that things might one day be better. One day. When we can I hope this Tearoom will still be open.

Red and black with white.

Some sketches from last year. Using various amounts of white along with red and black. I think I added white to make the images easier to see and read. The red is quite a dark tone and it’s hard to see against the black areas. I also think someone who is colour blind might be able to see the images with more white.

Biscuit

Biscuit and coffee, biscuit and tea. Biscuit with cheese. So many accompaniments. It’s good to enjoy them with something. To dunk or not? I like dunking. Dunking and drinking. Bits of biscuit get too soft and drop off in lumps into your drink.

Biscuits go with desserts as well. You can soak them in alcohol and use them in the bases of cheesecake smashed up with butter to make a hard layer for the topping. Tasty.

Scones

Our tea at Westport lake cafe was coffee and scones with jam and clotted cream.

I put jam on first, then cream on top. Some people do it the other way round (cream first) how?

Scones are pronounced scownes rhymes with owns or scons, rhymes with ones. It depends what part of the country you live in… For a small country we have a lot of differences in accents!

Ringing for 🍵 tea!

Tea for me?

When you are on zoom upstairs and your hubby is deaf so can’t hear you shouting. I find the best solution is to ring from my mobile to the land-line downstairs! Does anyone else do daft things like this? The result was a nice cup of tea while I didn’t miss any of the practice. And no I said thank you when he brought it up to me, not after he’d gone back downstairs.

T

A proper cup of Tea.

Quick watercolour sketch of my brown Bessie tea pot and a mug of Tea. It started out as a graphite pencil sketch but you couldn’t really see it against the black paper so…. I filled in some of it, I made up some of it. I was going to leave some of it black but I used washes of dark blue and dark red to give it more oomph.

Art is fun, art let’s you free yourself, creativity can be good for you.

Today’s sketching prompt ‘ceramic’

Today’s #bandofsketchers prompt is ceramic. This is my brown ‘Bessie’ or ‘Betty’ tea pot and a couple of mugs of tea. One of which has the Penkhull Flag on it.

The shadow at the bottom was from my head as I stood and drew in the sunny kitchen. It was just going to be ink and pencil, then I thought why not add colour? It’s a sketch rather than a neat drawing. Hope you like.
