Not a good photo, but this was me drawing different marks as part of a mark making workshop.
It was supposed to be in pencil but all I had was a blue pencil crayon. I also tried rubbing over the top of an embossed tin. You had to come up with as many different marks as you coukd in a five minute period. It gets your mind working… Good for creativity.
OK, a strange one of our living room light, we have textured paper on the ceiling (courtesy of the builder who did up the house). Bright felt pens and dark shadows. The light is on.
Today’s #bandofsketchers prompt was the word ON.
Sometimes it’s hard to know what to do for these prompts. I was thinking of drawing a bird on a twig, but it went dark before I got round to it.

Finally did a positive/negative self portrait after trying to think what I could do. I used the edge of a page cut off and added to the centre of this to make an interesting division.
Sometimes the challenges are really hard to do. I was going to draw a battery! Not exactly interesting. The negative side of the photo really lacked detail even when I tried changing the exposure.
Just watched Gardeners World on TV. Who knew that you should plant tip bulbs about eight inches deep to get them to flower well. Or that if you take off the flower and stem when the tulip flower dies the leaves will photosynthesise and feed the bulb so it flowers again next year.
I decided to draw a tulip, but I used some gold glitter and spray ink (purple and green) to create some texture. The gold is really sparkling in the first photo, but top the sketchbook and it calms it down a bit.
I used a thin nib black ink pen for the details. Î
Two little drawings of mice for my friend Zoe Ainsworth-Grigg. She commissioned me to do a couple of illustrations of mice for a poem. In the poem the baby mice sing. I’m not writing it out as she holds the copyright to it. She just wanted simple line drawings and she was very happy with this.
Take a dried up, broad nib, calligraphy felt pen. Start drawing, watch as the view changes because the line up of images moves when you have the songsheet with the words displayed. Try and sing and draw at the same time! It’s hard to look down at your sketchbook, up at the words, and across to your fellow choir members. I challenged them to try and recognise themselves from these crude sketches.
Today’s #bandofsketchers prompt was cafe/bar. I haven’t been out to a cafe but I decided to use some mono printed black and white paper to create a table and mug. I added colours to define the objects and create a design on the mug. The circles on the table are meant to be splatters from paint can lids..

Just found this old drawing, I was playing with words. There is a comedy sketch by a duo in the 1970’s. It’s a bit like Monty Pythons dead parrot sketch in that it is a classic British comedy sketch. This one was by the Two Ronnie’s (Ronnie Barker and Ronnie Corbett). In it one of them goes into a shop and asks for various objects and the other one brings things out that sound the same but are different. Hence the ‘four candles /fork handles joke.
Anyway that’s what the writing on this is about. I think I was trying to mimic graffiti.

This is by my friend Ruth (@rumfluffart on Instagram.) it was based on her drawing of me that she did during one of our portrait drawing sessions. I like the way she has altered it in a programme called Procreate I think. Is something I would like to use but I don’t have the right type of phone or tablet to run it.
She has a good sense of colour and her artworks are accessable and fun.
