I joined a moss appreciation group recently. I’ve taken a few photos but I’ve not come across anything as spectacular as some of the members post. You can just see a reddish orange cup shape in the bottom right quarter of this photo. I think its a type of fungus?
Here’s a closer look. Can you identify it?
I like the idea of eccentric groups of people adding information and images to the Internet. That’s what makes it interesting.
Like Macavity the Mystery cat, the poem by TS Elliot, he’s not there…. Or at least was so eager to greet me that he jumped down from his perch and stopped me getting a shot of him looking cute on the windowledge in front of various glass ornaments. Plus hubbys wizard figurine and two dying plants that I have seriously neglected recently.
I’m glad I have the cats, small, medium and large keeping me company. By turns cheeky and cute. They are just what I need when I’m feeling low, and I need them more than ever at the moment.

Just a dandelion sprouting from a brick wall in Spode, Stoke-on-Trent. I took this a few years ago. I added it to the ‘Peeling Paint Appreciation Society’ page on Facebook. It’s got wonderful peeling paint photos that are right up my street…..

Silver birches in front of the chimney at Jessie Shirley’s bone and flint mill in Etruria, Stoke on Trent today. It was very grey and overcast, but the silver white bark of the trees shone out like exclamation marks against the industrial museum background. It’s funny how your eyes accommodate and let more light in than the camera does. To me they really stood out. But they photo is really dull, maybe I should edit it?
I’m thinking of doing some volunteering in the near future to get out and about more, Etruria seems like somewhere to start. x
The ugly duckling hides in the reeds, brown feathers gradually lost, snow white feathers uncovered. Soon it will be a majestic Swan.

Westport lake. A splendid place to visit is one of our local reservoirs. It helps supply the Trent and Mersey canal. In winter when the trees and bushes are skeletal the warm glow of a sunset can make it seem anything but cold. Pleasant memory of a walk with my hubby.
One of my cats. It’s good to have something as a companion when you find yourself on your own. The fact you have something to look after holds you together. You can’t easily give in to sadness when creatures rely on you. Life has a way of kicking your ankles and letting you know you still have responsibilities. Thankfully it’s also good to have friends to help out. They know who they are and how much support they have given me (buying catfood and shopping while I’ve had covid).
It’s going to be a long journey, but having my companion animals will help.
