Leaves, leave, the trees.
Leaving the world,
Death and decay.
But like a firework,
Exploding in colour,
Before deminishing
Into a skeletal framework.
To be blown away on the wind……
New paintings and regular art updates.

Sometimes it’s nice just to take a close up abstract shot of something. Shapes become more important than detail. Tiny pink petals almost look like butterflies and the straggly money plant, which is cast in shadow, raised its bulbous leaves up to the sky. The thin pale leaves of the spider plant are almost translucent in the light.
Then again you can play about with silhouettes in nature or draw dark doodles to make a pleasing composition.
Always explore, always enjoy, always create if you can.

Patterns, that’s what I like, I make them out of trees, out of skies out of water.
Nature makes it easy to create something interesting and different each time. Sometimes you can see faces and animals in the patterns.
Each time I take a photo I think how it would appear if I turned it into a pattern. Some pictures are easier than others, photos with a lot of strong diagonals, or lots of sky and just a small corner with the side of a building in it can also be interesting.
The pictures I took today have strong contrasts because of the bright low sun. The light delinated the branches and made them stand out.
Most of the time I turn each picture four times, but I don’t have to stick to that format. For instance the third picture in this series is slightly different, see if you can see why.

Do you doodle when you are on the phone? I do if I’m on my phone. Its funny what comes into my mind. Mainly faces, patterns, thoughts.
These were drawn in biro on an old envelope. Sometimes I use italic pens or metallic ones. I tend to fill up all the space. I don’t remember when I did these. A few years ago?
And why not draw doodles? The more you practice art the better you can get. It also helps understanding what you are doing. I talk to myself sometimes as I draw to work out where I want to place features on a face for example.

Feathers, bold, blues new,
Trees and lamps, float above,
Mirror wings , fly out phantom birds.
Swoop over head, peck at the sky.
Field of blue, arching inwards,
Nearer than infinity, but far.
Find your reflection, on the wind,
Life eternal, changing, clouds scattered.

Colours, shapes and texture make up this pattern. Using digital apps can create images that would not be easy to create on paper or canvas.
Once you have done that you could use another app to duplicate and twist the images. I love patterns and continue to create images like this.
It’s really not hard to do and it would be good to see more art being created in this way. Be brave! Have a go! You might surprise yourself.

Everyone seems to be posting 9 of their best pictures on Instagram at the moment. I don’t know what app they are using so I just posted these. Mainly commissions plus my stall which I had at Spode earlier this month.
So I hope you all have a lovely New Year’s Eve and a great 2019!
Sometimes I see something and I know it could be morphed into something else. Here I took a picture of railway lines and turned it into a pattern for a butterfly.
It also appears to me like a horses head tipped down and facing right. I might have a go at morphing it into that image.
Patterns spark my interest. As a child I woukd make faces and animals by looking closely at patterned wallpaper or see dragons or Pegasus in the clouds.
I’m glad a dreamer. I would encourage anyone to look at the shapes around them. Pattern is embedded in the Universe. You only have to look at the spiral shell of a snail to imagine galaxies or whirlpools.

Encaustic is using a small hot iron to melt wax. You then used the iron to place it onto thick card and move it around until you have made a picture. I tend to draw patterns with it I like the arched shapes and feathered patterns you can make with the pointed end of an iron.
Other things you would need are newspaper to place the cards on while you are working with hot wax. Pointed heated styluses to draw into and with the wax, a fire blanket to place underneath everything. Cloth to clean the iron between different colour waxes and also soft cloth to burnish the final peice and bring out the shine of the wax.
Our set has about two dozen colours so there can be plenty of choices of wax to create different patterns.
I learnt to do this from one of the workshops our art group organises from time to time.

I love spirals,
Twirling round and far,
Spiral buns and spiral suns
And spiral galaxies.
I love
Spirals…..
Twisting round
