Stop the world, I want to get off?

Memories play tricks, but I’m sure there were moments in my life when I was happier, or fitter, or could remember more facts. Or even remember the name of the hole in the top of a car that let’s sunlight in…. Roof window? Sky light? OK I know, it’s sun roof….

Some years ago I think I was content. Can’t remember the exact date, but we went on holiday a couple of times and I was fit enough to go cycling…. But the world turns, and I keep getting older. The things you get used to change, not necessarily in the way you want.

I don’t suppose anything can stay perfect, or you can stay content forever, it would just be nice for it to stay that way for a bit longer.

Friday the thirteenth

Untitled41_001

Out of luck today, the result of our general election didn’t go the way I wanted. I usually stay up all night to watch the results, but as soon as I heard what the exit pole said I decided to give it a miss. No last night I went to bed about 1am, which is actually early for me. I would  have gone earlier, but I was watching a couple of documentaries about Maori art and they were far more enjoyable than election results. I think I knew it was going to be bad when I saw the results would be on Friday the Thirteenth.

I look forward to more austerity and homelessness, worse health care, the sale of the NHS, more crime. But I’m not bitter, just sad.

Finished Mural

Finished and varnished! Well after being struck down by a severe head cold all week it was touch and go if I could get this done. But I was doing the lower part of it, so only had to climb up at the end for a few minutes to varnish the painted bits at the top. I now feel like c**p to be honest. But I’d promised to get it done (a bit like Boris) (grr) (people in Britain will know what I’m on about)…… The people I did it for are really pleased.

Voting today

We are holding our third General election in five years in the UK today. That is Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

I won’t bore you with the politics but our parliament was opposing our prime ministers policies so he decided to try and get more politicians on his side by calling an election despite there being a previous one about two years ago.

What has ensued has been a bit of a farce, with politicians apparently going into hiding so they don’t cause problems by saying inappropriate things. The Prime Minister has hidden from journalists, and refused to be interviewed by senior journalists despite his opponents being interviewed.

The use of social media has also been questionable, with targeted information being pushed at voters. Most of the time you are in your own bubble, you don’t see what other party supporters see, some of this is from Trolls who stir up hate and animosity.

Last night in several constituencies posters of a very disturbing nature were put up. They could be classed as libelous. They were taken back down by the political party that was being attacked, but they must have been paid for by a concerted group of people and they may have breached rules about how much campaign’s are allowed to spend.

Whatever happened, or happens, the results are due to start flooding in later tonight. It’s been a cold wet miserable day, but there have been reports of queues round the block in some places.

I appreciate the right to vote. As a woman I feel privileged to have the right to do so, following the fight by the suffragettes in the 20th Century. To people in the UK, I would say its a miserable evening, but please use your vote and show you care about your fellow citizens.

I found a black cat drawing

FB_IMG_1573123796865

Found a digital drawing I did in 2016 on my Facebook memories. This was drawn on ArtRage free app. Black cats are not that popular, robably because of the myth that they are witches familiars. I just like how they look, like mini panthers or jaguars.

Black cats are proud creatures, mainly short-haired although I have seen long-haired ones. They can cause some allergies because their dandruff seems to trigger things. But I don’t think that’s a problem.

Black cats crossing your path are considered good luck in Britain, but unlucky in the USA. It’s funny how things can be so opposite in these countries. As they say America and Britain are two countries seperated by the same language. Anyway I still like black cats.

Rains falling heavily

sketch-1575999245319

We’ve been waiting all day for the rain and it’s arrived after dark, in torrents. The wind has been blowing strongly, bending trees over, waving branches, bits of twig falling on the road. There is almost a stream of water rushing past the back door. The noise of the rain drumming against the window.

In the UK we don’t have long months of cold rain or months of sunshine. We are at a position in the world where weather  comes at us from all different directions. From the East we get freezing winds and snow, from the South, warm winds and heat, from the West, Atlantic storms, or high pressure keeping frost and calm weather over us, and from the North, Arctic winds and snow. And then all of that mixes up and scrambles things even more. Makes for an interesting life!

Staffordshire Oatcakes with blackberries and lemon mousse

DSC_2377

It doesn’t look much but I wanted to use up some blackberries and I also wanted to get some vitamin C. I rolled up the blackberries in the Staffordshire Oatcakes. I added a sprinkle of sweetener that I cook with. Then I drizzled honey and lemon juice over the top and heated them in the microwave for a couple of minutes. Topped with half a tub of lemon mousse which needed using up. I’m used to Oatcakes with savoury fillings like cheese but these were sweet and tasty!

Trust me

sketch-1575990422620

She woke to a bright light shining overhead, blue curtains round a metal bed. The smell of disinfectant in her nostrils. Why was she here? She looked at her leg, a metal cast was round it. Bolts stuck put at the top and bottom near her knee and ankle. She realised she had a cannula in her arm. What else? No visible windows, just the all pervading glow of light. No sound of anyone moving, no drink on a cupboard next the the bed. She felt thirsty, hungry even, no idea what time it was.

She looked round for a push button or a pull cord to get attention, nothing. She called out ‘Hello? Can someone help?’

Silence… She felt tired and fell asleep. Later, she didn’t know how long, she woke again, strangely no longer hungry or thirsty. The cannula was attached to a big bag of pale blue fluid. She looked at her leg. Now it was wrapped in a plastic bandage, the splint or cast was gone? How, she didn’t remember time passing. She heard a sound, a human shape pushed through the soft blue curtains. She flinched as she saw the metallic face.

‘Trust me, I’m a Robot’ it said.

Giraffe

Giraffes are close to extinction. People are shooting them! How selfish can you be? Elephants, Lions, Snow Leopards, Cheetahs, Rhino’s, White Rhino’s, Tigers and Gorilla’s and Orangutans, and monkeys and marsupials. So many animals that might not exist in a few years. Then there’s all the small mammals, fish, insects, cold blooded snakes and lizards, birds, amphibians. Not to mention Trees, plants and everything else you can think of!

You know who is driving this mass extinction, US! Humans, people, man, woman everyone.

We need to grab back our world and save it, now, before it’s too late and it’s gone….
