Cold seeps in from outside,
A slight windchill wicks away warmth.
House walls don’t hold heat
Leeching and sucking
Taking the warmth from me too
I sit and doze and wear extra jumpers….
Remembering us together
Keeping each other warm.
New paintings and regular art updates.

Mid November and the snow is falling. Not deep, but palpably real. Very early for this time of year, it usually doesn’t happen till January if at all. I’ve had the central heating on for three days now and it might keep going till the weekend. I’m waiting for the morning as it is forecast to get worse before it gets better. Sorry it’s not a more exiting view!

A giant cat wrapped around a pottery bottle oven, called keeping warm. I drew this along with a few more cat and pottery designs back in 2017. It just came up on my Facebook memories today. Black and white sketch using a black biro if I remember correctly.

Oil heaters to help keep warm
Supply some heat through the storm
With a heating radiator seized
These give off heat and I’m pleased
To keep comfy, snug and warm
They really work like a charm
But how I wish we didn’t have
A draughty house like a cave
That doesn’t really rhyme, I know
But poems about heating are low
On my list of things to write
Especially when the bill gives a fright!
A choice of light and heating?
Or having food for eating!

Here’s a bit of blank verse,
We are lucky not to be too cold.
It’s nineteen point two
A slight chill in here
Two small lights on
Saving energy?
So I have a dressing gown
Or a cardigan
To wear.
I will buy a hot water bottle.
No gas fire this autumn or winter
Central Heating?
When it’s too cold.
An electric heater otherwise.
Gas costs more than electricity here
I can’t afford double what we paid
Last year.
Well at least I’m not heating up
The environment, too much.

Big wet flakes of snow. Its too cold to open up the back door and film it. I’m shivering and cold so I’m wrapped up. Our heating system is on but our house isn’t well insulated so it doesn’t retain heat. I would like to get it done but I don’t have the money and I can’t get a grant….. Life. We live in a small victorian end terrace house with a small extension of a kitchen and bathroom. They are the worst bit because I think they are only a single layer of bricks and the flat roof is not really insulated either. I should just shut the door, but then how would the cats get in and out? So I’m sitting watching the flakes fall. They are only starting to stick now. It’s not supposed to fall for long then it should turn to rain. Whatever happens I don’t feel like going out in it. Keep warm….

On windowsills
On beds
In front of fires
Our three cats keep warm.
They snuggle
Curl and stretch
Heat seekers
Where the warmest places are
You will find them.
On the coldest nights
They each have their ‘spot’.
There comfy place.
To sleep and rest
And RELAX.
I have a cat that loves boxes. Currently he’s sleeping in two that I’ve put together and put on top of the oven because it’s warm there. He looks so happy and cute. He can’t resist curling up inside.
Can you see he’s smiling? I think that cars eyes show you emotion. As he is happy his eyes are slightly closed. If I slowly close my eyes when I look at him he does the same thing. Staring at cats is not good, they tend to feel it is aggression. But once you know them they don’t mind as much.
Stare at a cat and it will probably walk away, but if you look somewhere else, away from it, then it might even jump up on your lap. That’s why they pay more attention to eople who don’t like them, they are looking away and the cat sees it as non aggressive, passive, behaviour.
