New paintings and regular art updates.

Today I had a workshop on brainstorming. Coming up with ideas based on the word heuristic (first we had to read the definition) turns out it’s to do with finding out about things, collaboration, experimentation, investigation. Do we thought if sherlock Holmes, detecting things, doing research, being nosy. Bugging things, bookworms, learning, library, eyes, investigating the universe….
The doodle? That was drawn last night while I was trying to come up with ideas for an editorial brief… Its not anything to do with today, just something abstract.

Tonight we were singing sea shanties and other songs, led by Greg and Kate from the Boatband. Our choir is called Clay Chorus, and every week I spend a little time sketching what’s happening. It can be an object in the room or an image on the screen. I really enjoy doing them….

I found this face in these tree roots. Could be a little devil? You never really know what you are going to find until you play with an image. What fun…

We had to imagine some characters to add to an illustration so I drew these. I’m not sure whether they are OK. I did a large face so it comes forward in the image, a genie that eminates from the gas fire in the illustration and a fairy just taking in the view…

The resulting image is quite strange, with added fix, owl, horse, bug and cat. Then I added some flowers and plants..

Bad photos so I used filters on my phone then Instagram to bring out the colours, I need to find a way of taking pictures without shadows and glare on the page….

Another day another walk, so posting some more photographic experiments. If you remember to include a diagonal line in the photo you can create all sorts of patterns and surrealistic effects. Using the layout app that links in to Instagram and Facebook.

Doodle in ArtRage oils. I haven’t used it for a while but I don’t want to forget how to use it. I might try and make it more interesting… As it is he looks like a slightly sad character. Trying to appeal to the caring side of me…..

Sit and watch
My tail twitch
My whiskers sweep
Around the sink.
Where’s the spiders
Gone tonight?
In the sink…
Underneath…
By the bath?
Looking for them…
I’ll find em!

I’m doing mark making in my illustration course so I decided to try and make a background (could be a foundation for a shibui image? ) tossed coins, poured and pulled pva and splashed and dragged paint. Will remove the coins then use the surface to work on. I have a feeling I might use it for a cave painting style image.

Courtney Pine is a jazz saxophonist famous for his amazing music. He has a form of synesthesia and sees shapes in his music. I was watching #skyportraitartistoftheyear and decided to try and draw Courtney Pine from an Internet image. I had fun, this took about 1hr…colour pencil sketch, underdrawn with a 9h pencil that scratched through lines into the paper surface…
