I think I’m going dotty
I think I’m going daft
I’m sure I saw a face there
Lying on the mat
I saw a lot of dots there
Splodges and circles too
But in amidst the dotty dots
I saw the face of you!

Artrage doodle, it started as a background and was possibly going to be a river with fish in it, but when it came to the final image, this strange face snuck in. I am struggling with energy, trying to stay awake because sleeping on an old armchair will do that to you. I’ve made lots of mistakes in the writing on here, I keep on doing it because I’m falling asleep as I draw and write. So it’s a very random drawing. X

A simple digital drawing using flood fill to fill in a sketch, then a line drawn over it to delineate the face and duplicated and flipped to create a collaged image. I like the freedom of digital abstraction.

Editing a digital drawing that I made in Artrage. I used photodirector to create several variations, then incollage to create a compilation of them so you can see the steps I took.
Does it look like a good portrait? No. Its more of an abstract idea. I could try using this on an actual painting, I will have to decide if I can do it as this is a finger painting again.

I added different textures, scratches, and overlays to my dotty drawing from earlier oni don’t know why but I have to push the boundaries to my work until it feels finished. I guess that’s why I call myself an experimental fine artist. I like the way it’s digital but it could be painted and then weathered and flaking. I keep editing until I cannot get an improvement in the image.

I didn’t know where to stop
Dot dot dot.. Dot
Your face
Covered in spots…
Out of control
Pestilence or freckles?
Why green
It went with the scene
Being seen
A mass
Of pointillistic
Doodling….
Tuesdays #bandofsketchers prompt was Content. I struggled with this, then looked up ‘content’ online. I found a lot of content faces. This is based on one of them. The drawing is done in fine black ink liner pen. I tried shading with it. Photo taken in quite a dark room so the brightness /contrast is a bit off.

Smudge and fudge
Please don’t judge?
Abstract face
Drawn with pace
Quick and messy
Like graffiti, breezy…
Oily marking
I might be larking
Around with sprays?
No, finger plays
On screen, I did it all
Digital!

Drawn with dots at a now defunct site called sketchfu. The site had a colour picker, about six round brush sizes. An opacity/transparency setting, zoom option and a pallette. Not many tools, but simple to use and it attracted a lot of traffic (thousands of users). In the end the owners abandoned it, they ghosted us moderators (I was one) I think they sold the site off.

Abstract face finger painted with the Artrage app on my phone. I like the way the different brushes and changing the roughness of the surface and grain size gives it a real textured surface. I added lines on the eyes and mouth rising a roller tool that left a line if you dabbed your finger on the surface of the phone. I also added spirals on the edges of the picture, I was trying to make it look like material. If you turn the pen up to 100% metallic the colours get darker.
