Playing with fashion.

Watching the Great British Sewing Bee on TV (a TV show on BBC which pits a number of amateur sewing competetors against each other) I drew these trying to channel fashion, remembering old fashioned sewing patterns you could get in the 1970’s. I doodled a design, but not feeling very well so just messing about. I used Artrage and Photodirector to create the patterns.

A few old sketches

Drawings from a few years ago at the Dorothy Clive garden that came up on my Facebook memories today. Happier days, when things were not so difficult. Sometimes time should be allowed to go backwards. Even if it’s like the film back to the future. A few hours to tweak the space time continuum. Then I could still be happy. But nil desperandum I need to get on with life. No regrets? I don’t think so.

Drawn on my Wacom tablet in photoshop 12 years ago. Based on the Escher drawing.  I think I was drawn to the idea of a hand holding a reflective ball. This was a real challenge and was mainly drawn from imagination, but I looked at my hand held up in this position to draw it accurately.

The room in the reflection is based on what was in front of me but with added curves to try and recreate the spherical feeling. The room had been ‘edited’ removing some of the clutter. The view is not what would have been reflected in a globe which was a wall behind me. Only my head and shoulders were truly imagined.

Etruria Canal Festival

Drawings for the Stoke-on-Trent urban sketchers group.  I was sorry not to see any other urban sketchers there at Etruria today but I was just there to sing with Clay Chorus and the Boat Band. I was getting a lift there and back with someone so I couldn’t stay. First drawing, The Forge with someone sitting on the wall. The second was across the canal on the car park looking back at the festival while waiting for the Shuttle bus. Hampered by a stiff breeze and my hat blowing off twice!

Gold coloured bangle

What personal belongings do you hold most dear?

When I was about 12 my mom and dad bought me a gold coloured bangle as a present while we were on holiday. It clipped together on one side and had a little chain that stopped it from falling off. Of all the things I have this was the most precious. I still have it, it is a bit worn, the gold colour has rubbed off a bit, the swirly engraving of flowers is still visible but it’s slightly too small so I rarely wear it.

Pneumonia

Six years ago I had to go to hospital. But I still wanted to draw.

A drawing I did when I was in hospital 6 years ago with pneumonia. Even when  I’m not well I still want to do art. I was in for a few days. When the antibiotics kicked in I started to feel better and got very bored, so I asked my hubby (bless him) to bring me a sketch pad and some pencils. It helped that I was in a side room and I had a view out across the valley with hospital buildings, houses and trees. I was a bit annoyed with the thick window frames that blocked a lot of the view but I guess they need to be sturdy. I hope I don’t have to go through that again, but if I do I will be asking for art materials!
