Random

Falling asleep with my finger on the screen of the Sketchbook app on my phone. I’d chose a smudge and soft pastel app. I started with an image in mind, but I woke up from my doze a few times and saw the straggly pattern developing! I could have worked on it but just let the ‘process’ carry on.

It is entirely random and I can alter angles and colours and opacity if I want to. But I like the idea of having no volition over it, making it really random.

View out

The sun was shining through the checking office door at Etruria Industrial museum. The age of the building means that the walls are damp by the door. I like the red fire extinguisher and the blue in the corner add pops of colour that work with the browns and greens outside and the terracotta colour on the wall. The conduit pipes to the electrical switches give a hint of the buildings Industrial heritage. This office is set between two arms of the Trent and Mersey canal and the Cauldon arm of it. Inside are old bakalite telephones and other old fashioned equipment.

Orme summer challenge

Orme summer challenge is to copy a section of a Renoir and aDegas painting. Then they will be joined together. It’s a challenge because we have to try and accurately match up with each others squares, but it’s up to the group members to choose what medium to complete the task in. These are my chosen sections. I will post my resulting drawings in the next few weeks.

White hydrangea

Hydrangea Macoropholia

I said we had got a white hydrangea a few days ago but it’s only just beginning to flower. It’s still in a pot, and looking closely it seems to be a very pale pink.

We had one a couple of years ago with conical instead of flat flower heads. But because it was very shady in the garden it didn’t thrive. That’s why this one is in its pot-so we can move it around… Anyway I think its lovely X.

Old tops

Pattern

I’m unearthing old tops and leggings because I’m having a late spring clean. I bought some of those vaccum bags that you fill with clothes and then suck all the air out. It’s surprising how satisfying it is to do. I’ve bagged up all my winter jumpers. All I need to do is unzip the bag when I need them again. It also means they can’t be attacked by clothes moths. I will also bag up a winter bedcover and a few sheets and a crocheted blanket. I’m glad I bought the bags. In the meantime I’m enjoying wearing a top I last wore twenty years ago… My cupboards need sorting out more frequently!

Abstracting or adding?

What has this become? Duplicated, added filters, texture, sharpness. Mixed and muddled. Colourful, like false colour terrain. You can have a lot of fun with digital art. I feel like I’m flying over a mad landscape, rather like in 2001 a space oddessy when Dave Bowman flies through an alien landscape near the end of the film. What fun a bit psychedelic! x

Flowers experiment

Digital play

I decided to play with digital drawing again did a drawing in the Artrage app and them modified it in the Sketchbook app. I then used the incollage app to create a collage of the steps I had taken. Finally I used an Instagram filter to change the hues of the images. I did all of this as a finger drawing. I need to try using a stylus for a more controlled effect.
