Orange

IMG_20180522_001618

Orange is sharp, orange is zesty,                                                         bright like the sun, full of sweetness.

Orange is clay, terracotta, rusty.                                                         Iron oxidized, turned into ochre.

Orange is fire, hot lava pouring,                                                         burning with heat, spitting out rocks.

Orange a mixture of red and of yellow,                                            painting the sky in a deep sunset glow.

Orange is warmth and spice in food,                                                 saffron in rice, turmeric too.

Let Orange be free, paint with it, see –

It’s colour reminds me to be happy…

Nebula

Just spent two hours going from a blank canvas to this. I’m trying to paint Planetary nebula NGC 2044. May have got the number wrong?

Anyway I saw the canvas last week and decided to have a go at something. I was going to paint the moon  but decided on something a bit more colourful….hmm there I go again!

Anyway, astronomers out there will see its not accurate, but its bloody difficult to hold a book in one hand and the canvas in the other…not doing my back any good. Its now 2am. I have an appointment at 9.30am, I dont know why I’m still up? Well yes I do, my artists block is well and truly broken. I have finished 8 tiny paintings today and started this!

I sort of explode sometimes with art.. can’t help it. I am so full of ideas sometimes…..but…bed…ok..bed..hmmm…coffee? No..bed…

Night all!

This is the finished painting. Sorry about the lighting!

Blue

image_2018-05-13_012829

Drawing this made the white of my screen appear orange when I had finished it.

Orange is Blues contrasting colour, but Blue can be warm or cold, but you don’t often hear of Cold Orange unless it is juice out of the fridge… anyway here us another Mad, Bad, poem….

I am BLUE, you too? Are you blue with cold?

Are your lips blue?  and are  you feeling old?

SKY is blue, cerulean too, depending on the view.

SEA itself can be quite blue with turquoise or greenish hue.

Notes fall up and then crawl down, JAZz can be real blue.  a complicated time for you…life can reallymake you BLUE

Blue BIRDS sing, make notes ring,

Blue of a cloudless sky,

we wish, all the summer through.

Mandelbrot

If you look closely this is my drawing of the Mandlebrot set..not a photo.FB_IMG_1524272149873

I do love Chaos theory, when I first heard of it I bought a book called Chaos and read about Mandlebrot who came up with the theory.

That was around 30 years ago, so I don’t remember much about it. But I love the idea that coasts can be fractal, and so can clouds. When you zoom in on a real Mandlebrot pattern you always see this distinct pattern no matter how deep into it you go.

The colours change, curves and swirls and spirals appear, but that pattern keeps coming back.

My drawing is not perfect, but at least it gives an idea of the pattern….like a little Buddha on its side… sparking with electricity.

Other fractal patterns include squares within squares, and triangles within triangles.

Go and look at websites with them on….you will be fascinated hopefully.

Something spooky?

For the last few nights the Moon has been close to Venus ….FB_IMG_1524173492793FB_IMG_1524173482026FB_IMG_1524173492793so I took these on thursday night with my phone camera..IMG_20180421_001900_423

And each one showed up the Moon, but Venus was very faint, and the bright light on the canal warehouse was shining so bright that you can barely see the pixel of light that is Venus.

But then I like duplicating photos, and there was one with the moon glimmering through the branches of a willow tree so I decided to use the layout app to switch one photo through 180 degrees.

Much to my cheer I realised the glimmers look like eyes! The branches and leaves like hair, the roof looks like shoulders.. it could be a monstrous alien……

(I also see faces and animals in patterned wallpaper)

Turning walls into butterflies…

I’m not going into details or explaining this one…

I am just leaving this here so you can see how my mind works…

One thing leads to another

Colour and contrast shade the image,

Tones flow, bricks swirl, wood cracks and peels as the paint falls.

The carapace hardens and is split, butterfly spills out.

Tiny tiles of scales glint through old webs of moss…..

Glossy silver and gold, hold the eye, iridescent, shivering…..

The problem with web based drawing sites!

Join an art based website at your peril!

I joined a site  and happily drew there for years. The site tools were simple to draw with, a colour picker, variable sized pens and opacity,  lovely,  no layers to mess with. I and many others enjoyed the site which saw a steady rise in use…

The problem as it got too popular. What was meant to be an art site got a lot of attention from bloggers who would write stories under the drawings. The moderators found it difficult to control, and the owners, who had started up another site, were giving less and less attention to it.

I enjoyed drawing challenges there, some of which are shown above. Honing my digital drawing skills. I was happy with what I was doing and made many friends. Sadly though, the site was eventually closed. The owners tried to transfer people across to the new site, but it had too many tools,  there were lots of things to do, but the site did not have the same feel as the old place. It seemed aimed at a younger audience. Eventually it too closed, to reappear as a different site where you could search for your old drawings but they were hard to find, and you coukd not add new work.

Luckily I had downloaded some of them before this happened. As with other sites, be careful to back up your drawings or they may be lost.

So, now I can Tag….

How do I find Tags on other people’s posts…?

You know it was inevitable, once you know how to do something you realise you need more information. So many questions.20180409_180812

You find out how to paint then you try new mediums….like jam or jelly…….

Or find something interesting and take a photo of it…IMG_20180401_115802

So ……I can go to my Tags, and see the piece I have published…but where are other Tags using that or those words? I don’t think I’m the only person who has used Art or Digital Art as Tags…

I have a very varied interest in Art and I want to find other like minded people , who flit like a butterfly from style or medium to different creations.

Is there a page …like the Reader page, where I can find similar posts through the bloggers tags.

So…If you know how … please help xx

Seriously, how do you add hashtags?

I want to add #hashtags on WordPress but I cannot see how?

A friend pointed out today that I don’t use hashtags or categories here, and I replied I don’t know how. I have tried finding the editor section to put them on but I can only see an edit button.

I would like people to find my posts, I don’t want to be shouting into the dark, and I want people to see what I’m up to.

Question…if I put #artist into the body of the text here, will that work?

Is it because I only have a basic WordPress account ? I have noticed some things won’t work because I dont have a premium plan.

Any thoughts or advice will be gratefully received.

#art #stoke-on-trent #Spode #painter etc,etc……..

EDIT… another blogger called cosistories has explained x

Thanks!

Serendipitous?

Two pictures seperated by 12 hours….

I did the drawing on the left 12 hours before I saw the stones and ammonites on the right.

I was playing with colours on a digital drawing and added swirls and expanded some areas to look like marbles or stones.

12 hours later we decided to visit a friend, I had no idea she had this collection of stones (caboucions?), but took this colourful picture to put on instagram.

When I got home and posted it I was struck not only by the similarity of shapes in both pictures, but also by the colours. I have to say we are both artists, so we probably have similar tastes, but this coincidence is interesting. I dont believe in the occult or anything like that. I just think this is interesting and the colours and patterns are pleasing to the eye.
