Owl

A year ago I was painting this owl. I was working towards a couple of craft fairs, including one at Endon Well dressing. Now things are quiet and I just don’t have the motivation to paint, although I am doing drawings every day. I just can’t be bothered to faff about getting my paints out and I need some canvases, I shall have to buy some more.

Snake painting,

Did this Snake and Ladder painting a couple of years ago. It was a bit of an experiment but someone liked it and had it straight away. I don’t remember all the paintings I’ve done, and I’m not the kind of person who makes a list, so there are pictures out there in the world that you might own….

Feeling owlish

_20200123_120219After a bad night’s sleep I decided to go to Etruria Artists this morning. One of the group suggested drawing a wise animal. My hubby drew a fox, I decided to draw an owl. I wanted to do something colourful and more abstract than I would usually do. This is based on my handbag, though it’s not a copy, more inspired by my bag. I think he’s more cheeky than wise!

Big cat

A recent painting that has gone to a good home. I love painting animals and people. I think I’m reasonably good at capturing a close image of what I’m trying to portray. I’m not a super or photo realist, but I try and be as accurate as I can be.

Next year I would  like to do some more commissions, and they can be of just about anything. I enjoy the challenge.

Dog

This beautiful boy Collie dog came into the gallery today. I asked for permission to take his photo, I may use it to do a painting of him. He was very lively, we gave him some treats and soon he was shaking paws and rolling over to have his tummy tickled. I loved his fox colour. I think it’s called red?

He was a little nervous with all the noise and chatter around him, but soon calmed down.

Tonight’s drawings

I briefly went to an art city presentation tonight. It was good to see some old friends. I couldn’t stay for the whole thing but the number of people there was impressive.

I had my sketch book with me, so decided to do some urban sketching. The first drawing was hard because I started drawing the front view of  a man’s face. The trouble was he made eye contact! I couldn’t tell him what I was doing, so it was a case of dodging around and quickly glancing over at him. The other figures were easier, I round it hard to indicate it was crowded so drew partially obscured figures in the background to try and make it more realistic.

The second drawing was done in a large area where there were tables and chairs set up and a screen for video to run. I looked around and spotted this paper lantern, full sized, bull at the back of the room. I liked the way the structure contrasted with the regular bricks and metal grills. What an amazing lantern!

Final day of solo show

_20190818_235842_optimized

My final solo show day at the waiting room gallery is tomorrow, 22nd September 2019. Its open from 12noon to I think 5pm.

Im hoping people that couldn’t get to the opening will come along tomorrow.

It’s near Longport Station (which is being restored) and is a great new artist led gallery. I’m hoping to sort out some prints with them so they will have artwork for sale with them after the show has ended.

So that’s The Waiting Room Gallery, Longport, ST6 4ND. Maybe see you there. x
