Afternoon music

Just back from an afternoon in the sunshine drinking (alcohol free) gin and diet tonic. The Boat Band were playing a mixture of cajun and sea shanty and folk music. People joined in. I found my kazoo and had a go but had completely forgotten how to play. I was embarrassed because they introduced me and I couldn’t get it to work…. Then as the orchestra of interesting instruments kicked back in again I could play it! Weirdly I think it was nerves. After two years of not joining in with open mic situations (with no mic) I just wasn’t quite ready. Glad to chat with people and think about strategies for coping with anxiety. I will try and get help for that. X

Slippers

I wanted to buy some new slippers today but they only came in small medium or large in our local supermarket. We’ll that was strange. Feet come in lots of sizes and not averages. I had socks and shoes on which I didn’t want to take off but I remembered something from reading art books. Your forearm is the same length as your foot! The medium ones were the closest in length to my forearm and seemed to match the length of my shoes so I bought some. On wearing them they are a smidgen too small, but if I had bought the large ones they would have been like boats! Supermarkets? Not good to just sell three sizes!

The outlook

What will happen.

Where will we be?

Who shall save us

If needs be?

We watch the world

And what do we see?

Too much damage

Too many crimes

No one caring

No big fines.

The world is creeping

Towards catastrophe?

Who even cares,

You or me?

The corporate world

Has profits to collect.

Shareholders to pay

Not tomorrow, but today.

Not caring whether

There money causes trouble

While all around?

The Earth turns to rubble.

Give peace a hope

Give earth a chance

Stay one of the ‘Woke’

In this merry dance.

Falmouth

I received my certificate from Falmouth University today. I’m not saying what it was or showing the full thing as I know the Internet can be used to steal information and copy your details. But I love their crest. A bird holding paintbrushes, a sailing ship. The words Creative, Connected, Courageous. Doesn’t that say it all? I’m proud to be associated with it. Does it matter that I got it? Yes it does to me. I am proud of my achievement.

can anyone tell me?

As an experiment I cooked a portion of meatballs alfornio in the oven ( gas mark 7, 35 minutes) and king prawn linguini (5 minutes in the microwave). Both were cooked at the same time but I put the microwave food in when the oven food was almost cooked, so they were both piping hot.

My question to the scientific minded out there is, which used the most energy? My guess is the gas oven cooked meal. But I don’t know? What is the ratio between the two? If I want to save money, which is the best? Answers please…..

Clouds over carpark

Look up, see the blue, but then see the clouds. Mottled grey and white. When I was a child I was obsessed with clouds. In sewing class I embroidered white and grey clouds on a blue background. When I did art foundation I painted a cloudscape in quink ink. The colour of it, a darkish grey blue, split into browns and blue when you added water. I’ve painted clouds reflected in the windows at Spode in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire.

Knowledge of clouds. I wish I could recognise them and their types. I know some names, cumulus, cumulonimbus, stratus, etc, etc,…

Artemis probe

I saw there is an unmanned mission to the moon called Artemis. Its from NASA and its part of a plan to send a team including woman and a person of colour to the moon. Its fifty three years since the first men landed on the Moon.

I looked up Artemis and she was the Greek goddess of hunting, Similar to the roman goddess Diana. I suppose its a good name for it. I wonder when it will happen. I hope it does. I think it’s possible, but I really think it’s unlikely that we will ever go to Mars?

Wet web

Water spray on a garden spider web caught in the sunlight.

I’m happy I got a reasonable photo as I had to use my zoom on the phone because I couldn’t get close enough. The spider was absent, probably taking shelter from a splash of water.

My phone memory is full so might not be posting much for the next few days.. I will try and post when I can.

Yin-yang

Made a coffee, but as often happens I saw a pattern as the cream swirled over the top. I took a photo, which isn’t very good, because I thought it looks like the yin-yang symbol.

I have always, for as long as I remember, found shapes in patterns, from imagined fairies in rose wallpaper, to dragons on tablecloth fabric. I have a mind that has a creative bent. Pareidolia is sometimes fun, sometimes irritating. But I use it for my art.
