Today’s #bandofsketchers prompt was statue or monument. I’m not sure if Mow Cop, which stands on a ridge above Cheshire is a monument, but its still interesting. It was built as a folly in 1754? and apparently used as a summerhouse. Its owned now by the National Trust. Its open to the public but is accessible by uneven rocky paths. If you are interested it’s worth a visit. The road to it up Mow Cop hill is quite windy and narrow and ascends through the village of Mow Cop, Staffordshire.
A couple of watercolours I’ve done over the last two days after watching a talk about using them. I wish I had stretched the paper as it curled because of the amount of water I used. The first is called ‘Why don’t cats keep still?’, basically it’s my boy cat washing, but he was constantly moving, the second is ‘lamp’. It’s the view of the back of our living room with a standard lamp and dream catcher with reflections. I used Arteza metallic watercolours and Windsor and Newton Watercolours to paint these sketches.
Today’s #bandofsketchers prompt was tubes. Couldn’t think of what to do until I thought.. Vacuum cleaner! I do like his eyes! It’s fun having a friendly character to help with the cleaning.
Coffee or tea mug, pencil sketch with watercolours on top. Plain and metallic. Trying to get accurate ellipses. I usually make the mistake of having stronger curves at the top than the bottom, when actually it’s the other way round!
On the windowledge drawn last night
Orchid plant observational drawing, drawn with a letter ink roller that you normally use to blot out addresses on letters. Then filled in with watercolours.
Sleeping, resting
Eyes tight shut
Gentle snoring
Dreaming but
Soon the first
Dream twitching starts..
His eyebrows furl
His nostrils flare
What thoughts are running
Through his nightmare.
And then
And then
A single sigh
And peace and calm
Take over again.
Sleep
Rest
Relax…
Morphius returns.
Today’s #bandofsketchers prompt. I couldn’t think of anything, until I thought ‘school of fish’, I found this example of a plate with a school of fish from John Lewis so tried to do a watercolour of it x
Todays #bandofsketchersprompt was signage, and as I was walking home after a long, wet, cold walk I decided to take a photo with my very soggy camera, of the view. Since my college course has me doing observational images every day this fit the bill for both prompts.
Felt pens for the signs, a bit of underdrawing with a felt pen thats running out, and watercolours to give it a “wet” feel.
Today’s #bandofsketchers challenge was to draw nature. I looked out of my window. There was the tangle of trees and vegitation out there plus bright blue sky and white rooves covered in snow. The ivy is scrambling up the trees and the buddliea bushes need cutting back….

Day 17. Basket with bathroom stuff. A bit wobbly but not too bad, pencils and watercolours. #30daysketchbookchallenge. The prompt was baskets and hampers. I’m in a few challenges now!
