Sitting waiting for my hubby while he was at an appointment. All the angles and layers made it an interesting view to draw. I got bored with looking at my phone and listening to ‘easy listening’ radio. I added colour when I got home. I also tried to draw a garden chair that was in the courtyard and looked a bit chunky.
Ten minute sketch while watching #skylandscapeartistoftheyear. It was of the Forth Bridge, although one of the towers looks like its collapsing! One of the reasons it was quick was because I wanted to watch the show and see what the artists did. You can’t do that while you are drawing. I enjoyed it very much.
We sing all sorts of music in the choirs I am in. We learn by repetition rather than using sheet music. We’ve been learning Bulgarian songs, and ones by Robert Burns recently. Also sea shanties. There is one choir called Clay Chorus that has men and women singing in it and Loud Mouth Women which is a women only choir. Both are usually unaccompanied (a capella), although sometimes we have a guitar or ukulele to help with the tune. There are no auditions, people just come along and try. Many stay with the choirs for years. It was such a shame when we couldn’t meet because od Covid. Now all of us are vaccinated, we wear masks when we move around. The windows are open and we keep the room well ventilated. We do lateral flow tests to be safe. It’s fun to sing again.
Indian sweets at Nafees in Shelton, they look so tempting but I got some Samosas instead because I’m not really allowed a lot of sugar. I asked permission to take a photo. I used new felt pens and a new sketchbook… The start of a new adventure. #bandofsketchers prompt for Tuesday ‘sweets’
#bandofsketchers prompt for Sunday was bright lights. I tried, but there aren’t many bright lights near where I live so I made up a Las Vegas sign, didn’t like it so put it through a digital filter….increasing the brightness, colours, adding texture.
Playing with complementary colours. I like red/green and blue/orange but a favourite is this combination yellow/purple. I yexturised the original pattern then mirror ed two of each, original and textured. Interestingly the colours seem to change as I used the texturising filters so I put them through Instagram to boost the intensity of the colours. It’s just a fun pattern.
Thursdays #bandofsketchers prompt was Station. Very quick sketch of Cheddleton Station from a photo. I used a picture as its probably not open to the public till Easter but we’ve been there and on the train several times.
Doodle of a woman in a bobble hat. Just a finger drawing, flooded with blocks of colour, done whilst listening to an online lecture about a deamon that someone has drawn over and over again.
My doodles are usually cats, nice, friendly creatures (with claws and teeth), but because this was a finger drawing it was easier to do.
Will I remember the lecture when I see this image? Possibly, but have I invested too much time in it so I have switched off my brain to the lecture? No, I don’t think so.
Rushes on the edge of Trentham Lake. Black ink fine line pen in my sketchbook, then filtered in Photodirector.
The filter has modified the image. It has made it more homogenous, less natural, more stylized. The ripples seem more dynamic, the heads of the bullrushes are more like candle flames. The trees could also be on fire. I may colour the image in. I see red or orange as the flood fill choice. Like a fiery sunset. Greens for the rushes, blues and greens and orange for the water. Maybe….
I kept some of the images I created on my old Nokia phone when I changed. I was really happy with the flood fill option it had because there were different patterns and textures instead of just basic colours. The green areas were finger painted onto the screen. It was fun to use and created some interesting effects.
