Celtic?

Digital drawing in response to some celtic knot drawings I did thirty or forty years ago. I started with Artrage, then used photodirector app and incollage, finally I used a filter in Instagram. Sketching the patterns was easier for me back in those days, but by using digital technology I can create more complaxity.

Happy Easter

Have a happy Easter. I realise it’s not just about chocolate eggs and bunnies, it is about faith and resurrection. It is the centre of the meaning of being a Christian, like everything else it has become a reason to market chocolate and other treats like hot cross buns.

But I enjoyed doing this scraper board drawing on holographic card. It’s decorated with flowers like tulips and daffodils plus eggs and rabbits.

I hope that however you celebrate this time of year you have some peace and loving kindness. Take care of yourselves.

Digitally

How has technology changed your job?

My ‘job’ isn’t really one, I don’t make sufficient money to make it worthwhile so I guess it’s more like a hobby. But as digital technology has improved I have been able to include it more into my art and mark making.

This image started as a digital drawing in Artrage. I then ran it through filters on the photodirector app several times which came up with this image of a tree. I like being free to experiment with art and seeing what results.

Lifedrawing

Ten minute watercolour sketch I did today at our art group. I am not going to show the front view sketches that I did as some people may find them offensive. Most of them were pen and watercolour sketches, I did try using a sharpie pen but the ink bled onto the paper and was too smudged. These were all 10 or 20 minute pictures. The final life study is an acrylic on canvas. We had an hour to complete it. I painted the models braids with ribbons woven into them and I mirrored the idea of them by painting a chequered floor (the floor is wood block parquet). I might post a close up later.

Happy St Patrick’s day

Happy St Patrick’s day, I couldn’t quite draw a Shamrock so I did a green butterfly instead.

I live in England so we don’t strongly celebrate St Patrick’s day as much as the Irish, but it is a happy day. I was meant to go out to a coffee morning to celebrate but I woke up with a runny nose and a sore throat so I decided not to share that. Anyway I hope you all have a lovely day. Looking forward to Spring and all the fresh greens to come. X

What is Threads?

It seems like a lot of people are on Threads. But I really don’t want to join. I don’t want to know what it is. I spend too much time on various sites and I don’t have the time to throw at another one. Plus I heard if you leave Threads they close your Instagram account. Is that true?

Can anyone out there persuade me to join?  Is there an advantage to it? It is apparently a writing based site, it sounds like tou can’t post images to it. But I love art and wouldn’t want to leave it behind. Let me know if I’m wrong.

Happy Pi Day

Have a happy Pi day. 22 over 7. Or 3.141592…. ? I’m not sure. An important mathematical concept that most people represent with a slice of Pie. Pi is the 16th letter of the Greek Alphabet. Pi is an infinite and irrational number I think? One episode of Star Trek had an out of control computer set to calculate the figure and was defeated because it was an impossible task. I just did a doodle based on the letter. Not exactly exciting sorry x

Catty

I realised I haven’t doodled much lately. I guess I’ve been too busy and distracted. So today I drew this cat in the Artrage app on my phone. It’s meant to be a tabby cat with grey black and white fur. I didn’t use the metallic option at all so the paler colours show up better than they would if I had. It’s like everything else, you learn what works for you.
