Yesterday at Westport lake

It’s hot, I’m tired, I can’t sleep. I got a bit burned in the sun yesterday while I was drawing at Westport lake. These are just quick biro sketches on a Crawford and Black A4 130gsm cartridge paper sketch pad. Excuse the setting I don’t have many bright areas in the house that are shadow free so I ended up propping them up on the gas oven. Ah the joys of photography at 3am! Night all!

Based on a tile

This is a digital drawing based on an old tile. I won’t bore you with the app I used it’s on my tablet and I haven’t been able to use it for a while as it needs fixing.

I drew it in 2016 and I don’t think I’ve shared it here before. It just popped up on my Facebook memories, and why not share it? It will just disappear into the aether again if I don’t.

I did try and create a glossy shine on it, but the chin is too big!

Mango juice

Another challenge drawing from about 10 years ago. I think this was Mango juice over ice looking at the colour of the liquid. I never tasted Mango juice until my thirties I think. And a real Mango? Probably in my forties. They were just not sold in local shops. Its the same with figs, I never realised how delicious they are. The world has changed in my lifetime. Probably better for the  majority of the North and West of the World. Not so much the southern continents. I wish life was fairer where everyone could taste Mango juice.

Sunday and Monday sketches

Not good photos of these.  I’ve been using a black felt pen and them a broad nib cartridge pen. I took the photos of them in bright sunshine so they were overexposed. I’ve used the curves option on my phones photo editor to try and get them less bright but on one of them this caused a blue cast.  The drawing of the cup is just a doodle because we were messing about with clay.

Partner

Well it’s a reasonable attempt at a portrait as he was moving for most of it. Bug I do think he looks like a tired Liam Neilson! We’ve been together for almost 40 years. A lifetime. We’ve both changed. Got older and creakier. I think I’m lucky being the younger one. But I do want him to stay healthy and enjoy his life. Today was his birthday so I took him out for lunch and to a garden centre. His choice of present? Compost and a brazier to burn garden rubbish in. We’ll practical at least. Tonight we might go out again, or a takeaway. Then we have a couple of other entertaining things to do later in the week.
