Triangles

I can’t stop experimenting. This time I drew overlapping triangles. Am I boring you? I think this kind of drawing is a meditation. It’s a way of ignoring the the world. Taking the time to place each shape and space them evenly apart. Does anyone else doodle or draw? It helps my mental health. I’m very visual and I have to create. I can’t stop….

Molecules

Just playing with pattern and colour. I will probably do more to this digitally. It is a drawing made with felt pens. Each shape is linked, where possible with a line. The centre is more complex, then the outer lines act as barriers or walls. When I’m doing this I set myself simple rules to follow so the image doesn’t end up too chaotic.

Learning paper cutting

Partly cut cat…..today’s craft skill held at B Arts in Stoke, was learning to use a craft knife to cut out our own designs. I’d almost finished this before the break. I’ve bought the sheet of paper home so I can complete this and three others, one is a sunset, then something based on a green man and the fourth is a horse. I will try and finish them off today.

A face?

The door is a mouth, the eyes could be the windows or the lamps on either side of the door… The cross above the door could be a nose. Pareidolia, the phenomenon of seeing faces, figures or animals in other images, be it a building or a mark on a pavement…

For instance I can see the shape of a lion or a cat profile here in this spilt liquid on the pavement….

USK S-O-T virtual sketch out

This was fun, I did a quick drawing over twenty minutes because I was late getting to the virtual meeting. The subject was Manchesters China Town. Basically its a rough sketch and I tried to add as much detail as I could in the limited time. I started on the pagoda side then worked over onto the left side, drawing in shapes and trying to get the tones right. I think it came out OK. I wad working off a photo that was only a couple of inches across so it was hard to get much detail.

Fruits….

Blackberries, before they are ripe, before the sun ripened them. Turning them juicy and sweet. I thought this image that I’d duplicated and mirrored made them look almost like insect eyes.

There are patterns that seem to replicate each other in the world and the universe. By playing with images you can get some startling effects.

Pattern again

I found this last night after posting about patterns yesterday. Clearly I have a thing about spirals and cats x.

I wasn’t trying for reality here, I enjoyed using these colours and the heavily patterned surface. This is about three years old.

I might do more of these. It depends if people like something quirky…..Right better get on and do some work.

Plotting an idea

we have had to create our own lexicon of shapes to create an alphabet. But when we did it we didn’t know what letters we would be given for each challenge. in this case i just have 90 degree and obtuse angles, little squares and moon shapes. How do you fit them together to make a face? And as the subject was a self portrait I didn’t know whether to do something current or a piece based on previous work. In the end I based the final drawing in black and white ink pen, on my 1981 self portrait from when I was a fine art student. The resulting picture doesn’t really resemble the original (not publishing them here) but it was an interesting experiment.

One annoyance is that as I’m using sketchbooks the shadow where the paper does not make proper contact with the glass is really bugging me, I will have to either cut pages out or work out a way of supporting the sketchpad.

I am going to be busy in future so I may visit WordPress a bit less, but I like using this as a diary and sketchbook so I wont be far away.

I saw a face

I saw a face,

I blocked out some of the photo, and added some lines to the result in a sympathetic green colour. The blue mecanopsis flowers form stunning eyes, the concave petals give it depth. The dark purple makes the mouth and upper lips. It’s a almost insect like, perhaps like the head of a dragonfly? I can see antennae on it. It’s something I enjoy doing, playing with images.
