Slate retaining wall holding up a grassy bank. Drawn in the Artrage app on my phone. Imagined from when we’ve visited the lake district and Wales. There is a metallic slider so I’ve added it to give the slate a wet sheen. For todays #bandofsketchers prompt ‘slate’.
I am not allowed much of this delectable delicacy. But it has to be my favourite. I usually say trifle but that’s like a squidgy layered cake. I like individual cakes, chocolate éclairs, apple turnovers, Eccles cakes.
I could list more. I can make a good Victoria sponge, but I would use sweetener instead of sugar to try and make it healthier. I sometimes make marbled cake, that’s where you make the cake batter up then add cocoa or chocolate to half of it. You then gently stir the two halves together so that the colours mingle but don’t mix. When it’s cooked you can see a pattern of marbling in it.
To be honest I didn’t know I knew so much about cake, but it’s not an obsession. I just enjoy it as a treat.
#bandofsketchers prompt was bark. I’ve found my stylus so I’ve tried to draw the bark of a tree trunk. It means I have more control over the sketch and I can be more accurate with my drawing. Used sketchbook app.
Today’s #bandofsketchers prompt was handmade. I tried to do an abstract, an imagined explanation of the prompt. I drew a hand holding a hand made of ice that is starting to melt. I used Artrage app and photodirector.
I tried to draw a cat yawning, which made me realise how tired I am at the moment.
If I were a cat I’d have yawned and fallen asleep by now. But I’m doing things, I’ve just eaten my evening meal, and I’m going to be doing things till well after midnight.
But cats have more sense. They come in when they are hungry or cold. They curl up on your lap, or in a little quiet place, a cat bed, or a chair, and then they get up and go out when they have rested. I read somewhere that cats sleep for up to 16 hours a day? I get by on barely 5 usually. Sometimes I’ll catch up. But these last few weeks have tired me out. I realise sleeping on the settee doesn’t help, but I still can’t climb stairs. I wish I could trans(mogg)rify into a cat! I’d get all the rest I need.
There were a lot of Sci fi programmes when I was growing up. The Tomorrow people, Thunderbirds, Star Trek, UFO, Space 1999, Dr Who, each one had it’s theme and ideas. Some were more idealistic than others, some were frightening. The variety of adventures were fascinating. Some of the sets were very shaky, you could see the walls move if an alien bumped into them! But it was the storyline that was important.
They really seemed to be more thoughtful than modern Sci fi. I think because they didn’t have fantastic special effects, and the English versions were less lasers and cowboys in space type stories, and slightly more philosophical.
It’s surprising how much I remember after seeing this prompt. I’d like to see some of these shows again just to see if I remember them correctly. I’ve recently watched Fireball XL5 on a station that shows old TV programmes. I used to love it when I was little… It’s awful now!
Thursdays #bandofsketchers prompt was shore. Finger painting digitally using a brush in the Sketchbook app called ‘salty watercolour’. The colours seem to splodge in quite a realistic way. Imagining a view of a Welsh or Devon Coast….
Today’s #bandofsketchers prompt was slime. A drawing using a photo of my hubby, I’d already drawn over it. I tried to add a layer of slimey gloop as if it was a sculpted bust covered in ectoplasm from a ghost in Ghost busters. You hopefully get the idea?!
Recently I’ve found myself singing in the shower. I don’t think I’m disturbing anyone as my hubby is deaf and the neighbours have moved out!
It’s lovely trying to sing one of the parts for a song our choir is performing. It means I can get the part right instead of struggling. It also means that I can learn the part off by heart and not have to ready from my songbook.
I also try and remember my favourite film tunes. Like Summertime, or Moon river or Singing in the rain. They are all old music, but they are lyrical and sweet. They give joy to my heart.
I think you get a different acoustic in a bathroom, you get an echo that can enhance your singing. That’s why I enjoy it.
25.7.23s #bandofsketchers prompt was doorway. I’m going to try and catch up with the recent prompts, been a bit busy lately. This doorway sketch is based on a doorway at Rode Hall that I took a photo of a few weeks ago.
